Life Sucks For BMW Owner After Firefighters Go THROUGH Illegally Parked Car To Douse Blaze

At the most dangerous point during what became an eight-alarm fire in East Boston Wednesday night, Boston firefighters scrambling to get water to their colleagues ran into a barrier: Someone had parked a BMW coupe in front of the hydrant near the blaze.

So they punched out the windows, ran a 4-inch hose from the hydrant through the driver’s side window, through the passenger’s side window, and out to an engine waiting to pump water to firefighters directly engaged in quelling a powerful fire threatening the neighborhood.

“The general reaction is that some people find humor in it,’’ said Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald. “But it’s really a serious situation. That water supply is the lifeblood of the engine company. The engine carries 750 gallons – and that could be gone in just two minutes. With that number of alarms, every hydrant is important.’’

This is a standard operating procedure for firefighters.

Driving a BMW apparently is not an absolution of being an ignorant selfish bastid.

Feel bad for the car, not so much for the owner.

Why couldn't the hose be routed over the car?

That wouldn't work because the hose is very stiff when it's full of water, and can't bend in a tight enough radius to go either over or around the car. The weight of the hose would probably do a significant amount of sheet metal damage as well. All told, a couple of easily replaceable windows, and possibly some scuffed or bent window trim, is a much easier pill to swallow.

Typical Douche BMW drivers. They did a survey a while back. Audi drivers are more likely to have affairs and BMW drivers are more likely to break the law.

and what do you drive? I am sure we could make some assumptions about you. Its not that is a BMW driver, its that people in general are becoming more selfish and dont respect others.

Douche - he deserved that and more.

Its the same type of moron who takes two parking places then wonder why they got keyed.

looking at the firehose, it could've rested on the hood @ the base of the windshield, if they were really worried about kinks, they would've opened the doors and let the hose rest on the seats..

Not sure why anyone is trying to defend the BMW driver. You have a license, you know the laws. And to add to some other comments I have always noticed luxury car drivers are way more likely to illegally park. It seems that if you can afford to spend that much on a car then you can give a rats ass about a parking ticket (or in this case the lives and safety of others).
