NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: Is Volkswagen FINALLY Giving The People The Jetta They Want? Refreshed Car To Debut At NYIAS
You know, it's funny. Not only does Volkswagen take its sweet time delivering its products to the States, it also takes its time delivering information.

As I was checking my RSS feeds, I noticed some of the European publications are posting the FIRST images of the newly revised Volkswagen Jetta. Looks like the Golf Sportwagen will have a friend.

The newly revised Jetta is a big deal as the Jetta is VW's volume product. In addition, a lot of the press got on veedub's back when the all-new Jetta initially debuted. They didn't like the decontented car nor were they fans of the cheapened interior. We, on the other hand, were understanding why VW did it — they wanted to lower the base price. AND, clearly consumers didn't care as the car moved off lots.

Though we don't have official information yet — thanks again, VWoA — we'll update this post when we get the details. From what we can tell, the changes aren't particularly noticeable, at least on the outside. The interior is said to have been upgraded a touch.

Volkswagen has previewed a light refresh of its Jetta saloon ahead of its reveal at the New York motor show in the coming days.

The saloon gets a light nip at the front and rear; the changes are done with a view to improving the Jetta’s aerodynamic efficiency.

At the front there’s a subtly altered front grille, revised air intakes, new LED daytime running lights and a new bumper, while the lines at the rear are tweaked to give the Jetta a more slippery shape...

Why did they bother? No one will see the changes.

Its still a 6th generation chassis, while it siblings (Golf, Sportwagon, etc.) have been on the 7th Gen for a year (outside the US).

Lame.

VW needs a new design theme, especially in the front. It's just way to plain. They have so much potential to be the only main stream German manufacturer.

VW does not listen to its American dealers that are screaming for more flashy style. There is a LOT of anger between North American VW dealers and Wolfsburg. They want a 3 row crossover. VW has one but it is 3-5 years out and in limbo with the German union trying to hold American workers hostage for not unionizing. American dealers want a RAV4 competitor--the Tiguan is dismal in that regard--and instead VW want to do a Golf Sporwagen TDI AWD, which is NOT what the market needs or wants. The facelifted Jetta will preside over still more sales slides.

rumnyc is right on the money. Consumers, at least American consumers buy on looks as most don't care about what's underneath. Hyundai and Kia have came out with some very nice looking cars recently when compared with the other cars in the classes and their sales have taken huge jumps I suspect. VW has never understood this. The Germans in general used to say that America doesn't like hatchbacks. No, America doesn't like UGLY hatchbacks. Acura sold a ton of Integra hatchbacks as has Honda sold civic hatches. Make it look good and it will sell.
