VIDEO: 2015 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG Maybach Prototype Found Uncloaked
We've previously spied the stretched S-Class S600 concealed in camo, but this quick video affords us a first glimpse at the Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG extra-long wheelbase model, albeit in prototype form.

The high-performance variant of the S-Class extra-LWB edition that is hotly tipped to receive the Maybach moniker, will be powered by the 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 that sits in the standard S65 AMG delivering an output of 630 hp and 737 lb-ft of torque.

I own 2 (and have owned 5 other) MB products, including two S-classes, so I am a huge MB fan.

However, am I alone in observing that this whole "Maybach" marketing escapade - where a seemingly stock S-Class is labelled a "Maybach" but with no other apparent changes, aside from a fancy interior (which we have not seen) perhaps - is a dumb and confusing waste?

MB - the Maybach FLOPPED big time! Please just let the brand die - people don't care. You are just going to confuse your customers. Make the S65 and the S600 the "ultra-luxury" flagships. Maybe you could create a new "Class" (V-Class, anyone) that sits above the S-Class? Or just sell it as a fancy S-Class.

By the way, the stretched S-Class Maybach shown in these photos is not the most attractive vehicle out there.

Looks like after-market bolt-ons, and not in a good way.

This is actually the Mercedes Pullman!

MB, please don't ruin the Pullman label. It currently has more credibility than Maybach and having us confuse the two does not bode well for the marque.

AMG and Maybach branding on the same vehicle? Seems confused!

My two cents?
Make the Pullman a modern classic by foregoing these ultra slick spoon looking cars. Rolls Royce did it right. Somehow the original Pullman in black, with the prominent Benz Star upfront still outclasses these new bubble looking cars. Striking a balance would call for creative design - but it is possible.

Agreed. Make it like a modern interpretation of the 60s Pullman. Upright, vertical headlights, angular, timeless and something that people with taste would drive/ride in rather than something a meth slinger in the hood would drive.

The Maybach died because no one had the slightest idea what it was. They know what a Bentley is. They know what a Rolls Royce is, but the Maybach looked like what it was: a stretched S Class at more than double the cost. RIDICULOUS! Googling images of Maybachs prior to the bloated S series will get you a lot of NAZI backdrop. The new S is hideous. It's too blubbery and saggy looking and this makes it worse. Bentley and Rolls Royce are laughing that Mercedes is repeating its prior mistake and hoping for a different outcome.

From what I saw on the Mercedes Benz Germany website
this is not a Maybach nor is it a Pullman either;
it's the upcoming MB S65 LWB.
I like the new 2014/5 S-class a lot especially the S63 and S600
but find the steering wheel on all these models to be very ugly though.
The new S-class is truly in a class of its own especially when it comes to its safety and technological advancements.
Will it take buyers away from Rolls Royce or Bentley;
only time will tell.
