NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: The Cayman My Be Best Bang For The Buck Porsche Out There But Do You Still Long For A Bit More?

I have to say if you are following Porsche  over the years the you may now agree the Cayman has matured to become the purist machine for the brand.

Yes there are faster and more powerful vehicles in the lineup, but the Cayman is for those who enjoy the essence of driving.  It is all about balance and the Cayman has morphed to the point that it strikes the best value to performance  without sacrificing  your summer home or wallet.

That isn’t to say you don’t have to lay out a wad of cash to pick up one, but it certainly worth the investment.

But does it ever strike you as a bit odd that even though you the while you layout all that cash, you still get a relatively sterile interior and limited color selection?  I guess we can always wish for more.

Actually, the color selection is almost unlimited - - - as long as you can afford it. Porsche will paint your car at the factory with almost any PPG color as part of their Paint to Sample program. Check out this Blue:

This is a great interior. Best interior on a Porsche showcar in sometime.

Love the exterior lines, the quality, the handling, the interior, but I think the pumpkin color interior in the show floor model looks off. Since Porsche is the master of special models, maybe they could call this the "Pumpkin edition".

i understand with performance it may be the best for the buck, but optioned nicely this is over 80k so its not really that affordable.

We should just be grateful they still sell the Boxster/Cayman at a somewhat affordable level. I predict that in the future they will continue to jack the price of the 911 up to the "halo" car level and if you want something under $100K with the Porsche nameplate, it will be an SUV. If this happens you can blame the stock-market mentality that replaced the engineer's company it used to be.

I'm really not a 911 fan anymore. I will make an exception for the new targa. Although this is first traditional looking targa in over 20 yrs.
For that reason it seem new, fresh and different. Saying all this the Cayman is great and at least a reasonable priceif you dont go crazy with options.2 things I would change with the Cayman.1) Add the same steering calibration as the GT3. 2)Add rear wheel steering this and all other Porsche sportscars.

I love this car;
with an option list that can run you as much as the base price of the vehicle and maybe more,
this baby is the definition of decadence at its best or worst.
