UAW Drops Challenge To VW Labor Vote Citing Too Much Red Tape

The United Auto Workers union said Monday it was ending its legal challenge to a union election in February in which voters at Volkswagen AG's Chattanooga, Tenn., plant, narrowly rejected forming a German-style works council.

The Detroit-based union said it was withdrawing objections filed with the National Labor Relations Board — ahead of a hearing scheduled for Monday in Atlanta.

UAW President Bob King said in a statement the decision was made "in the best interests of Volkswagen employees, the automaker, and economic development in Chattanooga."

King said the UAW based its decision on the belief that the NLRB’s "historically dysfunctional and complex process potentially could drag on for months or even years."

The union got their asses kicked and they are trying to spin it. The quicker we ban unions for all political activity and restrict them ONLY to work conditions the better. Any union member should have the option to leave the union at ANY time. Not the case now. All unions should have to stand for a yearly approval vote by 100% of its members. If a majority disapproves, they become de-unionized. In short, the sooner unions are put in their place the sooner we move away from socialist/communist principles and back to American values.

Matt hits it again. Completely agree... Zero members of the UAW voted FOR a union, they were forced to join as a condition of employment.... that's not American. All unions should sit for "re-certification" every yr or every other year, period. All dues should be paid via check each month by the employes, not having corporations forced to take dues out of checks and then send it to the union. All Fed/State and local Govt Unions need to be outlawed. Taxpayers pay for svcs and are compelled to pay. Their employees should not be allowed to hold taxpayers hostage.
