Daimler Resurrecting Maybach To Target New Millionaires In Asia And US
Daimler is set to revive Maybach, a brand once coveted by oligarchs, rap stars and royals, to woo a growing class of ultra-wealthy clients in Asia and the United States, a person familiar with the company's plans said.

The brand will be used to adorn an exclusive version of its S-Class limousine fitted with soft-touch leather and bespoke materials to help lure clients from other high-end brands like Rolls Royce and Bentley.

The Maybach will be showcased at both the Guangzhou and the Los Angeles auto shows in November and cost more than double the 165,000-euro ($228,000) asking price of its current flagship, the Mercedes-Benz S600, the person said.

Not to be outdone, rival BMW is expected to unveil a concept version of its top-of-the-line 7-series limousine at the Beijing auto show later this week, as it seeks to attract Chinese clients who are snapping up German premium cars.

Mecedes-Benz better have a different strategy for its Maybach brand this time around because last time Maybach was a disaster that ended up with the name and vehicles being scrapped altogether.

Wrong, the Maybach name wasn't scrapped hence their ability to use it again.

This is a different strategy nd quite a clever one on Merc's part. Rather than invest in a whole new platform or try to mask the S Class as something different...

Merc is using the worldwide dominance of the best selling Luxury flagship in the world, the S Class.

The Maybach Trim will push every envelope and limit of the S class's capability when it comes to tech, power, and features.

If this Maybach trim S Class is successful, Mercedes will surely spin off unique vehicles under the Maybach name building the brand from the inside out.

Smart move with minimal risk, way to capitalize on the dominance of the S Class and prestige of Maybach heritage

Mercedes' strategy is EXACTLY THE SAME as before! And once again it will be stylistically identical to the S Class and that is unpardonable sin #1 for a car costing 2+ times as much. With the exception of the previous super-S Class Maybach, the previous images of the brand are from NAZI Germany. WRONG BRAND TO RESURRECT! The new Maybach will be as dismal and putrid a failure as the last one. BMW has Rolls Royce. VW has Bentley. Mercedes is sucking wind!

Oy vey! Those who don't know history are destined to repeat it. MB's Maybach and VW's Phaeton are lessons that haven't been learned.

If they can sell them without taking a loss like last time, and make sure people actually buy them, then they can succeed. They need to step up their marketing and make sure it is on the radar of people in that market.

NO ONE is going to spend $350+K on a vehicle than looks like a $100K S class with a 70s style Ford Granada grille and an "Eminem" hood ornament. Mercedes should have completed its rape oops I mean "purchase" of Aston Martin and should have resurrected the Lagonda as a brand WITH ABSOLUTELY NO STYLING SIMILARITY to the Mercedes brand.

The simpler move would have simple been to call this monstrosity the Pullman and be done.
