If you know anything about BMW, there's a good chance that you know a good amount about its tuners. Some examples include Dinan, Hartge and Hamann. BUT, only Alpina is affiliated with the factory.
If you look into the history of Alpina's special projects with BMW, you'll note there's a consistent theme: a bit too much pinstriping, a custom interior, possibly some engine modifications that may/may not improve performance, an aerodynamics kit, and a set of wheels and tires. Oh, and a 1980s influence that's starting to become a bit uncomfortable unless you're still rocking acid wash.
2014 New York Auto ShowAt the 2014 New York Auto Show, however, it seems that Alpina may have just gotten it right. That's because it unveiled the B6 Gran Coupe. Though most of Alpina's product takes an extremely flamboyant approach, this one seemed a bit more on the calm and contained side.
