2014 Chevrolet Z28 Already Sold Out - Ponders Extending Limited Production

The company plans to built 500 for the 2014 model year and each already have homes according to Camaro chief engineer Al Oppenheiser. But that doesn’t mean Chevrolet will constrain production of the $75,000 muscle car. Oppenheiser said the company plans to produce to demand and projects that it will build 2,500 for the 2015 model year, although more will be made if there are customers for them. General Motors will open its order books for the next production run in the next four to six weeks.

Oppenheiser said during an interview at the Monticello Motor Club in New York that the Z28 Camaro is painting a target on cars like the Porsche 911 and Nissan GT-R. It uses a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission and 7.0-liter V8 along with a litany of other track-focused performance enhancements.

So all the buyers that were willing to pay the premium for a limited production model are now screwed. Once this news gets out, GM may have a bunch of pissed off customers or there may be a rush to cancel those pre-orders.

Incorrect. Buyers are wild for this car and enthusiasts DO NOT CARE if 10 or 1,000,000 are built. We could have easily sold 3X our allotment. Speculators may be pissed, but Camaro enthusiasts are not. The continuation looks like it would be scheduled as a part of the 2015 build manifest anyway, so this makes it no different that the Shelby GT500 that went yearly. This is pure profit for GM. Remember, this is just a Camaro. The test of whether or not it is collectible will be 30 years from now. NOT today.

Well it's a Camaro with a Z06 engine and carbon-ceramic brakes. But yes GM is making good money on this car, and they should because it's now a shining example of why, say, the GT-R has grown too expensive for what it really is -- a non-supercar that drives like a supercar on a racetrack.

Hillbillies don't have $75k to spend on a toy car typically.
