It's OFFICIAL! Toyota Abandoning California For Texas. How Will The Liberal Democrats Spin THIS?
What is YOUR take on the news? Who's NEXT? Apple?

Toyota Motor Corp. plans to move large numbers of jobs from its sales and marketing headquarters in Torrance to suburban Dallas, according to a person familiar with the automaker's plans.

The move, creating a new North American headquarters, would put management of Toyota's U.S. business close to where it builds most cars for this market.

North American Chief Executive Jim Lentz is expected to brief employees Monday, said the person, who was not authorized to speak publicly. Toyota declined to detail its plans. About 5,300 people work at Toyota's Torrance complex. It is unclear how many workers will be asked to move to Texas. The move is expected to take several years.

Frank Scotto, Torrance's mayor, said he had no warning of Toyota's decision. He said he did know that the automaker planned a corporate announcement for Monday.

Just as an FYI, AutoSpies.com moved its headquarters to Plano, Texas in 2013.

What does that have to do with Democrats ? I didn't read anywhere in the article that they were abandoning California -- it said they were moving "a large number" of jobs.....

I agree with you. People would rather talk about their irrational hate of a state, and its perceived political view(s), rather than discuss how one large global corporation was paid to move part of its operation to another state.

I guess $16.95 billion profit, for fiscal year 2013, is not quite enough.

if you dont see how this relates to the liberal democratic policies of CA, as compared to the business friendly climate in TX, then there's no hope for you. this is just another company in a flood of companies fleeing CA

It have EVERYTHING to do with the Democrats. Here in California, the Democrats are a supermajority in Sacramento and the tax increases on business have come with a Gestapolike fury. California is hellbent on increasing unemployment by being business unfriendly. Jerry Brown is a fiscal idiot.

California is going to be more expensive than Texas no matter what policies are in place. The major reason for the change has little to do with public policy and more to do with consolidation (A key strategy in the auto business). They want their HQ near their other operations. Having a spread out business is more costly to run.

Welcome to Texas! Just 5 miles away from 009's domicile.

I makes a lot of sense. Tax rates for Toyota should be significantly lower plus cost of living should be better so the flurry of Mac Mansions in the area will continue.

Hope to see some prototypes at the Cars And Coffee over the next few years since it is held less than a mile away from the new HQ.

Good Move Toyota, in an effort to recoup some of the losses and hits you've taken from recalls/lawsuits, moving to a place where everything's cheaper only make sense.

California is in the business of Technology and Entertainment, so I'm sure there won't be many tears shed

And the United States is losing in so many ways, compared to the European Union countries.

No wonder why the rich Americans worship the European brands as gods, and no wonder why the European countries have better standard of living compared to the United States.

There is no way to spin this move, or the many other companies that have moved out of California to Texas. It's further proof that the big government policies that Democrats advocate has advere impacts, and its no suprise that states like California and Illinois are having so much difficulty keeping employers in those states.

Here's a good writeup comparing the differences between the two states:

What does this have to do with Democrats? Why are people so hell-bent on making everything political? States have different laws and taxation...big-whoop. Oh, and Texas is hardly friendly to workers...Corporations get all the benefits in this state and the workers are basically screwed. I at one point was looking at a job move and interviewed in Hi-Tech market in Texas...after learning about backward employment laws there, uh, no thanks!

And, no, I will not be reading anything published by the 'National Review'.

Just like how Toyota has their own city in Japan, Toyota practically owns some parts of America and since China and Japan own tons of the U.S. debt, the United States has no choice but to ask politely to the Japanese companies to create more jobs for the American workers.

Why? Well, because the American companies themselves are not really interested in using the American workers anyway, so the only hope for this country are the Japanese companies.

Leej-You are fooling yourself if you do not believe that the economic and jobs success in Texas is not a direct result of conservative principles around growth and tax policy, while at the same time California has taken the exact opposite approach and is struggling with jobs and growth. You don't have to read natoinal review to figure this out...there have been tens of articles written on this topic. Both employers and employees are attracted to states that offer lower taxes and a lower cost of living, period.

Lower taxes and lower cost of living aint everything! If it was they will all move to Mexico or wait until Texas gets there on it's own.

I'm also not sure why partisanship comes in to play? Let's just rename this site Auto Politics rather then Auto Spies and be done with it. Each state takes a different approach to funding their local governments and population's needs, partly based on natural resources, geography and population growth. One of the reason Texas has lower/no business taxes is because it gets a large percentage it's income from of taxes and royalties on oil and natural-gas production. Something many other states don't have the luxury of.

Because politics plays a huge roll in Car manufacturing and business.
CAFE standards for one.

If you do not want to face that changes in the auto Industry is news and much of the change is due to progressive policy then you do not need to read the news and just keep the idea you are saving the world alive and well. These businesses have investors and businesses have a mandate to make these investors money.

Progressives like to tax and spend, it's always a
a money grab and the businesses and upper income types are always a target. If you can reduce your tax burden you will. Businesses are no different. How many of you liberals want to pay more tax?

No I don't mean for you to tell us who to tax more. I mean you hypocrites that want to spend everyone else's money for your causes. Next time you do your taxes don't itemize deductions and with all you progressives paying the extra taxes you can save the world.

Just look at the states on the brink of bankruptcy and I will show you a majority of liberals at the Helm. How's that for evidence that your policies are a failure?

You are spot on Mike3. Some seem to think that companies do not respond to state government policies that are developed by...guess who...politicians. Illinois is a prime example where Chicagoland companies are moving across the border to Wisconsin and Indiana where GOP Governors are offering incentives to bring jobs to their states. Texas is the polar opposite of Illinois and California, and that's a prime reason why they are almost growing too fast now.

Hahahaha to 'conservative principles'...I live in one of these so-called 'conservative' states, and listen to the bull that gets pulled here: We are one of the top 5 highest taxed states in the US. The Governor makes a big announcement about lowering state payroll taxes...big deal...taxes on everything else immediately went up. there is sales tax on everything here...everything including groceries. Property taxes have just gone up again, and we pay annual 'property tax' on our cars. Guess what else...oh, yes...'conservative principles' lured businesses here with huge tax incentives...we paid businesses to relocate here, THEN, after the incentives are up, the businesses up and leave and guess who got screwed for that? The tax payers. Oh yeah...gotta love those conservative principles. The only thing they do is make the rich richer, and the poor poorer.

Leej-I've lived in a deep red state and a deep blue state, and there is a world of difference in terms of how those two state governments manage their budgets and seek to grow jobs, and the deep red state continues to be in the top 3 states in the nation from an unemployment and growth perspective. Heck, before they would build a new school, they had it fully paid for. Meanwhile, the deep blue state I currently live in is in mega debt and is bleeding jobs right and left. This deep blue state has been lead by an all Democratic governor and legislator for 12 years straight. You can continue ignoring the reality of real results, but to tie back into this article, there is a reason that Toyota and so many other companies are relocating to Texas.

this has nothing to do with GOP and dems and more to do with the bottom line. Texas is just cheaper, land wise and tax wise.

I agree, this has nothing to do with politics. Texas is simply cheaper. Toyota can pay less in taxes and pay their workers less in Texas. The workers who are in high demand can stay in CA and easily find jobs at another company. My guess is Toyota won't risk loosing their best and brightest employees by telling them they have to leave CA and move to Texas.
