Volkswagen NMC Already Caught On The Road In Near Production Trim
The Volkswagen NMC four-door coupe was just unveiled at last week’s Beijing Motor Show 2014, but already, the car has been spotted testing in near-production form on Chinese roads. Destined to fit in between the Jetta and Passat and possibly replace both models, the NMC is basically a smaller brother to the beautiful VW CC 4-door coupe.

While it isn't yet clear whether the car will be offered outside of China, we have heard reports that a North American version could be built in Mexico.

Still absolutely perplexed why they're calling this a 4-door "coupe". The roofline looks no different than true sedans.

Looks like a Kia got in bed with a VW.

Isn't this a Jetta?

By several reports, this is the new Jetta that will replace the current one. VW literally did a 2 door concept Jetta to preview the four door a couple generations back. There is no Jetta CC coming. This is merely next year's Jetta.

There is a clear indication that there will be a Vento/Jetta CC, and that te current CC will again be known as Passat CC. It was pretty much confirmed when they introduced the NMC Concept in China recently.

Whether the pics in the article are of the next Jetta, the production version of the NMC concept, or a bogus rendering I don't really know.

Given the precipitous sales slide of the Passat CC--always a tiny niche player to begin with--it begs the question: Is VW insane?

Don't understand really. The CC is the best looking sedan VW sells yet its sales are sliding. The Jetta and Passat are now completely milquetoast for the American market. The rendering of the new car here is terrible looking. Looks like a squashed Passat and bloated Jetta all in one. Wish for the days when VW made cars that inspired driving like the Corrado VR6 and Scirocco. The best looking cars VW makes now, in my opinion, are the CC, GTI and Turbo Beetle. The sedans leave a lot to be desired. Kind of sad.

Because the CC is WAY overpriced.
