Audi Recalls Some A8's

German Audi Recalls 36,000 A8 Units on Air Bag Problems

German luxury carmaker Audi AG, a unit of local group Volkswagen AG (VW), is recalling 36,000 units of its A8 model, because of possible problems with the driver-side air bags, the company said on August 31, 2006, confirming earlier report of German specialised magazine auto-motor-sport.

In the course of an internal control procedure a problem was detected which does not allow the air bags to unfold properly. This resulted in a reduction of the protection effect, Audi said.

The affected vehicles in Germany are around 12,000, according to the carmaker. The defective cars were assembled in the period between the launch of the series in 2002 and March 2004.

Audi ( www.audi.com ) will change the driver-side air bags for free. The repair will take around 30 minutes per vehicle.

zedani audi isnt known for making the most reliable cars in the world isnt it? + i dont even know y toyota has recalls although their cars dont even have technology. lol

zedani24 - Yep Audi had a recall in Germany. I think they have recalled about 50K cars this year so far. Toyota on other had a few this year too. Actually this last figures I have seen show they have recalled more cars than they have produced this year. Lets hope tfor them they don't have any more. You have no room to talk.

I don't think it's exactly fair to compare Audi recalls to Toyota recalls. Audi's numbers should be directly compared to Lexus. Toyota's as we all know are built in large quantites for the masses of the people. The quality control and the attention to detail is not as high for Toyota as it is for Lexus.
Obviously, the more cars you produce in mass quantites, the higher the chance for recalls. Audi and Lexus vehicles are built to exacting standards, in controlled quantites, and with higher quality control(than Volkswagon or Toyota).

People should think what a recall really is??? Is it good or bad?? I think of it this way: if a carmaker has enough pride to admit a mistake and recall a vehicle to fix it free of charge that is perfectly acceptable.

In Toyota's case, I read that Toyota was covering up the recall for years... that I think is not fair, because in that time they were "worshiped" for being the cars with least problems, and many people bought them in that time.
