Volkswagen Spiral Continues With An 8.4% DECREASE in April Sales

Volkswagen of America, Inc. (VWoA) today reported 30,831 units delivered in April.

“April was a strong month for TDI Clean Diesels and we are thrilled to see more consumers lured by the fuel economy and range benefits these engines provide, said Mark McNabb, chief operating officer, Volkswagen of America. “As we move through the year we are looking forward to the introduction of even more fuel efficient Clean Diesel engines, and importantly, the launch of the all-new Golf coming this summer.”

Total Jetta deliveries for April, including SportWagen, accounted for 12,934 units.  Volkswagen debuted the 2015 Model Year Jetta at the New York International Auto Show featuring new styling, driver assistance systems, improved fuel efficiency, and enhanced content. The 2015 model year Jetta will arrive in showrooms later this year.

The Chattanooga-built Passat totaled 9,315 units delivered for the month. In April the Passat TDI, the only clean diesel in the midsize sedan segment, delivered 3,923 clean diesels or 42.1 percent of total Passat sales. This marks the best April ever for Passat TDI® Clean Diesel.

As Volkswagen prepares for the launch of the all-new family of Golf vehicles, sales of the current generation were 1,798 units. The much anticipated, all-new 2015 model Golf and GTI will go on sale later this summer.

Starting today, consumers can embark on their new vehicle shopping experience through the all-new VW.com. Drawing inspiration from the online dating and e-commerce sites that provide such high customer satisfaction, Volkswagen is confident that the all-new VW.com will make the VW buying experience as pleasurable as the VW driving experience.

It comes down to products that are dead wrong for the market and not having products the market demands. Germany always knows better than the American dealer arm.

They think we want a $40K Scirocco and a $100K Phaeton.

Wow. The Accord outsold the entire VW line by 4k units and the Camry by 8k units. Come on, VW, what's going on?

There was a time when Jettas were almost as prevalent as Civics and Corollas, or it appeared that way anyway. They were actually "cool" to own. Unique and attractiveness styling, somewhat distinct. And some viewed them as bargain BMWs. Now the Jetta and Passat are forgettable. They are both so generic (almost every time I see a Passat I think it's an Impala) and non-descript, no one notices. They need to do better because they actually do build some decent products (Tiguan and Eos notwithstanding..haha)

Well, they sold 570k cars last year and at this pace, they're going to be well off that number this year unless something miraculous happens.

I you look at the numbers you see that the Passat sales are up. Jetta only slightly down, Golf sales are really down, Tiguan sales a really down and Beetle sales are really down. Out of the 3 vehicles the Golf sales have taken the biggest hit. I think that Passat and Jetta sales will improve now with the 1.8 turbo engine and the IRS in Jetta. The only thing the Jetta needs improvement on is the interior design and quality. The problem with the Golf is the cannibalization from the Jetta and the Beetle. The styling of the Golf is not resonating. For a 3dr. A Beetle is more appealing in style. The GTI is not helping either. The 1.8 engine might help. I would not sell the Golf here. Rather I would sell the Polo. It is smaller, gets better gas mileage, just as refined and can be cheaper. Let the Beetle replace the Golf and come out with a 4d Beetle.
