Jeremy Clarkson Has ONE Last Chance — If He Were To Get THE BOOT, Would YOU Still Watch Top Gear?

Jeremy Clarkson Has ONE Last Chance — If He Were To Get THE BOOT, Would YOU Still Watch Top Gear?
If Jeremy Clarkson were to be in the dictionary, his picture would probably be associated with the word "polarizing." Let's face it, either you love him or hate him. On one side you'd have the "green" movement with their tree hugging ways and in the other corner you'd see a swarm of grease monkeys and V8 blenders that they had crafted in their sheds.

Well, if you missed Clarkson's bombshell this week, it wasn't on a re-run. It was his usage of the "N" word in several outtakes during filming an episode of everyone's favorite auto program, Top Gear.

In my opinion all you hear is muttering. I can't make out the "N" word.

After first denying he said it, Clarkson pulled a handbrake turn and was apologetic. That doesn't seem very Clarksonian, if you ask this writer. It could be because the BBC informed him, very clearly, that it was his last mistake. One more and he is — as the Brits would say — sacked.

Although I am the first to admit that Top Gear has grown a bit long in the tooth for me, I don't think I could imagine watching the program without Clarkson. I couldn't watch it with any of the three lads missing, frankly. They're all incredibly talented at what they do, and even though their exchanges are scripted there is a certain chemistry to their dynamic that's excellent.

If Clarkson were to get fired I wouldn't tune in anymore. Am I alone in this? Would YOU still watch Top Gear?

Actions speak louder than words. Everyone's a little bit racist, to quote a musicale. As a "wannabie greenie" I like Clarkson, don't agree with him a lot of the time, but I appreciate what he does.

I agree, Jeremy Clarkson is a tremendous talent and I have enjoyed his one of a kind take on the automotive industry...

However, everyone must be held accountable for their actions especially when they are on an international platform.

We live in a day of age where the most powerful/influential man and woman of the most powerful/influential country are Black(Barack Obama) and (Oprah Winfrey).

Both self made came from nothing and reached they very top of their respective fields without spewing hate towards people who discriminated against them on their climbs to the top.

I don't believe Mr. Clarkson is racist or dumb, but he most certainly is less than smart.

The man is talking about cars fro crying out loud, there is no place for racist remarks. Leave them at your kitchen table.

Man, talk about blowing things out of proportion. The media is just having a field day with this, as they always do in trying to crucify someone. If Jeremy is being held accountable for using the N word, then there are thousands of black people who should be held accountable. He wasn't using it maliciously by any means, and actually, he clearly showed in the video that he was attempting to be sensitive to its negative connotation by trying to muffle the word.

Nope. He is the heart & soul of Top Gear, along with the wonderful Andy Wilman.
He is a daft buffoon of a man, but racist? No. The fact he blurbled the 'N' word (Which Kanye et. al. can use, but I can't as I'm white & female - double standards; It either offends or it doesn't! ) shows he was being conciencious and had no wish to offend. The fact that he recorded an entirely different word for the broadcasted program reinforces this.

Seriously??? as a white male, I'm embarrassed for the ignorance being displayed by the whole notion of "I don't get to use it, so why should they? Or Black people should be held accountable for the N word...Really??

@cidfekken and @jezzabelle fortunately for us, when our teenage sons leave the house in a car we probably bought for them, we don't have to worry about them being profiled.

When our sons and daughters go shopping we don't have to worry about them being followed or harassed.

When our daughters and sons apply for jobs in corporate america, their resume won't be thrown out because their name "sounds ethnic"

When our Parents and Grandparents grew up in this country, they were allowed to sit where they wanted, eat where they wanted, shop where they wanted, work where they wanted, and send their kids to whichever school they wanted.

And you are mad because black people have the right to use one word???Seriously???

Give me a break

I don't care how he was using it, Jeremy Clarkson is a grown ass man, he knows right is right and wrong is wrong.

Don't use it, plain and simple, as a white guy I've never had to use it. Whether he meant is as a joke or not, that word when used coming from a white mouth comes from a horrific past that was usually followed by horrible actions.

CAr4Life - big thumbs up. We don't know how hard it is to walk in their shoes, and we never will. As a parent, you struggle to think of your child already being thought of in certain ways.

Yes, if the show is less silly with him gone. He's an opinionated, egotistical, anti-Yank car (albeit with good reason), Brit who thinks he's the final word on any opinion having to do with cars. (Actually, this rather sounds like some people in this car forum as well.) The show have become less informative and more geared towards stupid antics in the past 10 or so years I've been watching it and it pales in comparison to car shows in Germany that focus on more pertinent matters like utility, function and performance. The only saving graces of this show are Clarkson's co-hosts and "The Stig". Fire the Pommy bigot!

If Clarkson left and Top Gear returned to being a show about cars I might start watching the show again. Clarkson is a one liner has been.

I too am sick of Clarkson and the 'personality' he has become. You can chose to be a positive force...or a negative one. We have enough negative forces in the world today and I chose to no watch this show a while back. I really don't miss it.

like it or not Clarkson made the show. Without him the show would completely loose it's punch. In this sow you have 3 distinct personalities. Clarkson with his egotistical pompous personality who
has no mechanical ability, James May, who is the scientist and engineer, who is more intent on enjoying the drive rather than going for it for the best lap time's, and Richard who is kind of a mixture of both of them. The show would not survive unfortunately. You don't watch Top Gear for simply its car reviews. Any show can do that. Rather for it's unorthodox approach and sheer entertainment.5th Gear does not have this. I hope Jeremy can stay.
