Remember The AWESOME Kia GT4 Stinger? Guess What?! Kia Has Decided To...
Back at January's 2014 Detroit Auto Show, we were shocked by what a great show it was. It felt like the auto industry was back — at least to me. But one vehicle stood out amongst the delights over those two press days.

That, my friends, would be the Kia GT4 Stinger.

I mean, just look at it. Boasting elements of a Chevrolet Corvette, Nissan GT-R, Audi R8 and Audi Quattro, it's an astonishing looking product. Though Agent 001 and I love the Nissan 370Z, if Kia were to introduce this and make it with a great powerplant, the legendary Z car would have some trouble.

As with most things in the automotive industry, there's just one problem: they're NOT going to make it. We assume Peter Schreyer is disappointed. That's because his team knocked this one out of the park and it will never see the light of day.

According to Kia's top brass, they just don't feel confident it would generate enough volume to have a solid business case.

Do YOU think that Kia is making a mistake by playing it safe OR does the company NEED a halo car to help raise awareness in the marketplace? What say YOU, Spies?

A top Kia Motors Corp. executive doused designer Peter Schreyer's dreams for a sporty roadster, saying it wouldn't adequately build the brand or boost profits.

Kia's first priority needs to be strengthening brand image and awareness, overseas marketing chief Lee Soon-nam said. Only after doing that can the Korean carmaker dabble with niche products.

"The volume will be smaller and then we can't enhance the brand image fully..."

A mistake. This is the way to make a big jump in perception to enable other models like the K900 to soar

A mistake? Probably not. I doubt it would be a profitable endeavor. HOWEVER, I think it was great looking. Props to Kia's design team, hopefully they can get things squared away on the business end and revisit this one day.

they should definitely build it, it all comes down to price, i think as long at its about 5k cheaper than a mustang/ camaro it would do well..

NOT doing the GT4 was dumb because it and the recently introduced Genesis could have worked wonders. Hyundai/Kia is pretty coherent in their two mainstream brands, but when it comes to their premium "brand" (Genesis, Genesis coupe, Equus, K900, Azera, Cadenza) they are stumbling due to stupid marketing and duplication of effort...dumb, dumb, DUMB. All of their premiums need to be under one brand. The GT4 Stinger could have been the first model under the new premium brand i.e. Genesis GT4. Using Genesis as a brand name makes sense. The GT4 could have then supplanted the Genesis Coupe.

@reviews @Dexter1 your automotive (anti-Korean??) bigotry is showing...dynamically the new Genesis and K900 are definitely in the hunt, but if the outgoing Genesis is any indication, the warranty incidence rate will be almost non-existent, not so for the Germans. Don't get me wrong. Mercedes, Audi, and Porsche warranty work is quite lucrative for us, but I'd definitely take a K900 or a Genesis before the Germans.

Kia dealers are LIVID. They were given cause to believe the GT4 would be produced.

Don't be an idiot, @reviews. We all know it wouldn't have gone to market exactly as it was shown. Question is should Kia have built something like it with sporting intentions.

anti-Korean bigotry is clearly celebrated by this site. Cultural bigotry is NOT ok.
