Cadillac PRICES The All-New ATS Coupe — Does ANYONE Have To Worry About It Stealing Market Share?
In the world of entry-level luxury coupes, it's getting pretty crowded when you think about it.

Audi has the dated A5, BMW's 4-Series seems to be the go-to pick, Mercedes-Benz has the age-old C-Class Coupe and Lexus is readying the RC to take on the rest of 'em. Now, Cadillac has entered the fray with its all-new ATS Coupe.

By way of a press release, the company has issued it's base pricing for the model, which is set to arrive in showrooms at the end of the summer.

[Clears throat] You can put an ATS Coupe in your driveway if you're able to part ways with $38,990.

Of course you'll be able to spec it out with all-wheel drive and a more powerful six-cylinder mill should you chooose. All things considered, does the ATS have a fighting chance in the market? What say you, Spies?

Cadillac's press release follows:

Low, Long, Wide Coupe Enhances Cadillac ATS Line

Pricing starts at $38,990, including destination charge

DETROIT – For the 2015 ATS Coupe, Cadillac engineers and designers made a number of changes from the award-winning ATS Sedan to deliver the performance and styling traits luxury coupe buyers expect. When the ATS Coupe goes on sale at the end of this summer, it will start at $38,990, including a $995 destination charge.

To create a more personal expression of the brand's compact luxury car, the 2015 ATS Coupe rides on the same 109.3-inch wheelbase as the sedan, but features its own bodywork, longer vehicle length, lower height and wider front/rear tracks.

The roof, doors, rear fenders and trunk lid are unique to the Coupe, along with a specific front fascia and front fenders to accommodate the wider track. 18-inch wheels are standard on the Coupe.

"All of the surface development unique to the ATS Coupe was done with aerodynamics in mind," said David Masch, ATS chief engineer. "We are able to achieve lift and downforce requirements to insure, at top speed, we retain handling without having to add a rear spoiler."

The Coupe has an aggressive stance, with wider front/rear tracks and a lower roofline than the sedan. At 60.3 inches front and 61.7 inches rear, the two-door has a 0.8-inch wider track. Overall vehicle height is 1.1 inches lower than the Sedan. The wider stance and lower roofline provide the proportions coupe customers want.

"The wider track also helps improve steering precision and direct response," said Cadillac Executive Chief Engineer David Leone. "The lower roof contributes to a lower center of gravity height, which also reduces roll and improves steering response."

The 2015 ATS Coupe is also 0.8 inches longer than the sedan; although it rides on an identical wheelbase. The extra overall length helps to further enhance the ATS Coupe's dynamic appearance, resulting in a swept-back look to the front and rear end appearances.

The Cadillac ATS Coupe is intended to be a more personal addition to the award-winning ATS product line. Designed to be lighter, more agile and more engaging than its competitors, it extends Cadillac's product-driven growth and the brand's tradition of dynamic luxury Coupes. The 2015 ATS Coupe goes on sale this summer, offering drivers the choice of rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and the power from a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder or a 3.6L six-cylinder.

That sounds like a pretty decent amount of money, especially for a smaller vehicle than the 4-series coupe. It is similar in size to the 2-series coupe from interior perspective ...

NO. The others have nothing to worry about. The C-Class will be new for 2016. 4-Series is already HOT and brand new. A5/S5 will be new for 2016 I believe and the RC is different enough to stand out, and the RC-F is going to be a riot.

Cadillac is getting too cocky. They are over-pricing themselves at every level.

Sales of the ATS sedan haven't lit the sales charts on fire, despite the absurd amount of hype surrounding its introduction. It's basically in a tussle with the Q50, IS, and A4 to take the 3rd place position well below the C-Class and even further below the 3 Series. With many perceiving its styling as pretty bland, that's going to make that much more difficult for it to lure buyers from the 4 Series, C-Coupe, and A5/S5, unless it looks much better in person (and from those that have seen it in person, that doesn't seem to be the case).

GM is definitely going after the A5 with this car. It does not look that bad, but there is no way a two-door coupe should be longer than the sedan.

The price is right, and the looks are there, but I doubt many buyers will be persuaded to buy this over the Audi, or even the smaller 2-series, unless GM throws out some ridiculously low financing rates or other customer incentives.

The Cadillac ATS Coupe definitely looks nice. Maybe too "nice".

Needs a little bad-ass swagger.

The only person who should be concerned is the ELR product manager. When a better looking, bigger, cheaper Cadillac Coupe is launched, its only a matter of time before the ELR is cancelled. Heck you can buy two ATS Coupes for the price of one ELR.

What does ELR stand for anyway? Electronic Lousy Ride? Eldorado Lovers' Rock? Extra Large Rebate? A future topic, OOR?

Love your ELR suggestions.

Personally, I hope no one loses a gig at General Motors over the ELR except for the person who's decision it was to drop the ELR post Volt.

Dumbest idea, ever.

Cadillac is still a struggling concern, trying to recapture some of their former glory and stay relevant in today's markets.

I'm amazed at the level of uninformed and over opinionated comments. No disrespect but it's true. I've been an solid Audi guy for roughly 8 years. The A5 is a great car and the 4 Series is as well. Now that being said they all need to be worried. The pricing is spot on, it's less expensive than the A5 by a hair and a lot less than the 4 series. the Cadillac is 1" longer than both the 4 Series and the A5 which are almost identical in length and the ATS is in between them both in wheel base. Come on guys, keep it real this forum is supposed to be based on what's real not just random opinions. I have always also been a non American car guy but honestly, this new Cadillac attitude and style is above par in my opinion. Now if this article were about the ELR I'd go into my opinion on that I will only say that it was mislaunched, mispriced and under appreciated. I've driven the car and was given a thorough demonstration of the car and all I can say is WOW. But I feel the press didn't get what I got on that car. I've had some decent cars in my day, pretty much anything I wanted before the economy crashed in the 2008-2010 area. E55, Audi A8L, Audi Q7 4.2 to name a few. I found myself recently in the market for a new car and I was in between the A5, 4 Series and then randomly found myself looking into Cadillac. I wound up with the new CTS sedan and honestly I haven't been excited about a car like this in a long while. Two months in and I still love and am excited about the car. Honestly if I didn't need to get rid of my Jaguar XF which also was a nice fun car but lacked in the tech area I was used to from my Audi's I had prior. Now mind you the Jaguar was a 2009 so I'm not speaking of the newer ones because I honestly don't know much about them. All that being said, this car is destined for great things and I think they hit a bulls eye on price, looks and performance. I also her tell they will be bringing a V version of the car shortly after it's initial release.... I'm more than happy with my CTS and now have something else to look forward to once this lease is up!!

Incomplete thought...lol If I didn't need to get rid of the Jaguar I probably would've waited on the ATS Coupe....

The above picture certainly doesn't make it look Low, wide & long. Maybe it's the pic but it makes it look tall, short & boxy. Jury is out until I see one in person.
