There are actually some pretty dead wrong models on their list. The Ford Focus and the Fusion S quite excellent cars for under $25K

Hahaha EVERY Subaru :) As expected. For the money nothing else really comes close if you're looking for practicality, safety, quality, and these days Subis are fairly well respected among the younger crowd.

Used Honda CRV-EX AWD-- bought a 2007 for my daughter for about 16K (in 2012)- even 2007 has traction/stability control and airbags all around. Car has navigation and nice stereo and only thing missing is Bluetooth.

Most Ford and GM models are too unreliable to make their recommended list, though the Mazda 3 and 6 might have made this list. The potential savings seems off, most should be push 10%.
