GM Uncovers More Dirty Laundry - Recalls 2.42 Million MORE Car For Safety Defects

General Motors Co. said Tuesday it is recalling 2.42 million more vehicles in four new recall campaigns for a variety of problems as the fallout continues to mount from its ignition switch crisis.

GM said it now expects to take a $400 million charge in the second quarter for the growing number of recalls, up from the $200 million announced on Thursday. That’s on top of the $1.3 billion first quarter charge it took.

The automaker has now recalled more than 13.6 million vehicles in the United States and at least 15.2 million vehicles worldwide in 29 separate campaigns as the Detroit automaker tries to show it is more responsive. GM says no reports of deaths are linked to any of the four new recall campaigns.

Maybe GM's fools will discover it's easier just to TEST their products more carefully to begin with and FIRE engineers and managers who FAIL (instead of promoting them and giving them bonuses).

I am starting to wonder, if other manufacturers like, say, VW or Fiat, took as hard a look at their products as GM is taking at the moment, and felt the same sort of pressure, how many things they would find worthy of recall. Because I am skeptical of the notion that GM is that much worse than all other manufacturers that they have all these messed up vehicles and everyone else's are somehow not. I may of course be very wrong.

Every time a manufacturer gets under hardcore scrutiny for a major issue, they always dig deeper into all their model lines and find more problems. In the near future should be the best time to buy a new GM.
Toyota/Lexus released many recalls when the "Unintended Acceleration" allegations came around.
Ford did when they had the underhood fires (Texas Instruments)then did again in the 2000s with the Firestone Tire blowouts.
Audi did way back in the 80s as well.
