Cobalt Owners Finding Dealerships Have Recall Repair Queues As High As 300 Cars

General Motors was hit with a $35 million fine for not recalling cars with a dangerous defect for ten years. But now, it turns out people who own those cars are having trouble getting them fixed.

Dejah Dorantes of Crockett loves her car, "Oh, it's been terrific."

But her 2007 Chevy Cobalt is one of 2.6 million vehicles recalled by General Motors because of faulty ignition switches. The switches can disengage and cause major accidents. 13 deaths have been tied to the problem.

"I'm steamed. I'm really steamed," added Dorantes.

Because what's even worse is she can't get it fixed right now.

"I called on Friday and what they told me was, the one dealership had 200 cars waiting for repair, I called another dealership and they had 300 cars," she said.

"The switches can disengage and cause major accidents"

Say what? If your ignition failed, this in and of itself will NOT cause a "major" accident. Depending on where it happened, yes an accident is certainly a possibility, and it might be serious. However, the issue is that with the power off, the airbags will no longer be functional, and if an accident did occur, the resultant injuries could far worse, of course including death for those 13 poor souls.

Another TV news site that just wants to sensationalize the information for more page hits.

I didn't know there were that many left on the roads. I would have thought that Cobalts would have all rusted away and fallen apart by now.
