After THIS Debacle, Will You EVER Trust Buying A GM Car Or Truck Again?

After THIS Debacle, Will You EVER Trust Buying A GM Car Or Truck Again?
The bad news about GM reliability and failure keeps getting worse and worse as the days go on.

Stories of defect after defect and recall after recall.

Not just on one or two vehicles but now on many.

But the WORST news is that all indicators are showing NONE of this came as a surprise to them and that if they DID know, they CHOSE to push it all under the rug, no matter WHAT the possible repercussions or threat to customer safety.

When you look back and get to the heart of the matter of WHY the Asians gained such a HUGE stronghold in the USA over the last 30 years, in the end, it all came down to the hard facts that the Big 3 built inferior, unreliable less efficient products.

You could argue for hours about thsi but that is the real reason. And they were in denial ALL THOSE YEARS.

So our question now is because of all this, will you EVER TRUST a GM vehicle again or BUY one of their products?

Spies, discuss....

Currently have a C7 on order.. so.. yeah, I guess? :-/ But even though the car gives me some American Pride, the more of these serious quality problems surface the more I wish the car were a Honda Corvette or something.

The U.S. auto industry is pretty much dead. It is only supported by the North Americans who are patriotic and loyal to domestic products, and practically no one around the world cares about their cars, or just sees them as pure junk. Unreliable, cheap, and just purely junk. It kind of reflects the American culture in general. Disposable garbage stuff, that is what America is all about.

The Asian cars may be a lot more reliable, but unfortunately, their cars simply just are not able to become a status symbol of any kind. The U.S. auto brands have far better chances of becoming status symbols like Cadillac, Jeep and GMC than say Lexus or Acura.

And the luxury European brands? No comment. They are practically the "be-all, end-all" brands in the entire world. Unrivaled brand power and worshiped by so many wealthy businessmen and the elites in the world.

I just wish the American automakers tried harder. Because frankly, I would love to stick to American cars only if their reliability got better.

Historically, I've passed over GM because of their lackluster products. Additionally, now I pass them over because of their questionable business practices.

You know, when a company goes bankrupt, that's a hint that something is very, very wrong. Likely, more than one thing, too.

While it seems that there are a lot of problems with GM cars - the recalls in many cases involve small parts - or even Software updates - even the Ignition switch - is a Less than a Dollar Part not actually made by GM to begin with. AND because of the perceived problems - GM is now recalling far more cars than actually have the problems - just to be safe. (If you thought of a major problem - would an ignition switch be high on your list?)
Meanwhile - gm has always made among the best automatic transmissions - and is staying with the current developments in engines. The result is the likelyhood that they will be MORE careful - both in the way they design parts - and in the way they recall cars - ending in a superior product for us.
So - while it may effect GM in the short term - it is PRODUCT that makes or breaks the company. ANd GM has made some pretty appealing cars (YEs and some not so much - but even Mercedes has misses too). And GM also makes some pretty reliable trucks too.

Spoken like a true GM lifer/excuse maker. Who cares about their transmissions and engines when the rest of the car is junk and in some cases deadly junk.

Never had an American brand car. I'd get a Vette if anything but the interiors on these American cars is so plastic, BORING and cheap looking. I wonder where is the R&D money going? THanks for putting a nice navigation system into a boring dash and think that will make it better? Square buttons with horrible placement...

NO THANKS!

Why not buy GM cars still. People are still buying Toyotas even after all their lies and deceit to their loyal customers and the public + they make the most boring and ugliest cars on the road.

If they make the right car that no one else offers a similar one at the time then yes, I would buy a GM product again.

GM sales are still doing well, so plenty of suckers that think GM vehicles are finally improved or happy to get the huge discounts. I tried a '99 GM and learned my lessen.

I think this is a PR nightmare for GM. GM lost a lot of goodwill back in 2009 when they were bailed out, and now that it appears they were trying to hide potential safety/recall issues only further erodes confidence in their brand. Like all things, they can certainly regain the trust of some lost customers, but it's going to take time.

The sad truth is that most GM buyers and fans are too stupid to look elsewhere. People in rural areas and small towns aren't going to switch either. GM counts on this large population of ignorant buyers to keep them going. Everyone else has moved on. Some have come back with the recent Cadillacs and new trucks and cars like the Impala, but just as they start making real progress all of their junk from the past bites them in arse. GM won't be bailed out again if it gets to that. They're a low lying snake of a company. 13 dead over a part that would have cost them a few dollars to replace? Ridiculous.

Might consider buying GM product if it included the following coverage for free with new car purchase: 7 year/100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty, 7 year/unlimited miles 24/7 roadside assistance, 7 year/75,000 mile free maintenance, 7 year/75,000 mile wear and tear parts replacement, and most importantly, a transferable one million dollar life insurance policy for the registered owner, spouse and all dependents, as applicable, also good for 7 years of vehicle ownership. Otherwise, sorry no.

I'm a Corvette Owner and I have owned a few GM cars (Camaro, Corvette, HHR SS; Envoy), Several Fords (multiple Mustangs, Explorers, T-Bird) and several Japanese offerings and now a Korean Model. I must say that I have experienced more problems with GM's than any other brand and those problems are largely related to design/engineering problems or cheap parts. The HHR had a serious design flaw in the brake system that GM never fully corrected, and the Corvette had the harmonic balancer problem that screwed up the AC as well.

Would I buy another GM? Maybe although the odds are long on buying a new one. I might get a low miles used Camaro or C7 'Vette when these are proven over time. The thing about GM is you can still work on them yourself, obtain parts at reasonable prices, and do performance modifications. Same with the Mustang and now the Challenger from Dodge.

My experience is for the family hauling grocery getter you buy a good Honda/Nissan/Hyundai or a Ford Explorer and take good care of it and it will go the distance with the luxury you want. If you want a hot rod, get the American Muscle and do your mods and put up with the "problems" that arise. American Muscle is much more affordable, workable, and fun than the Euro/Japanese hot rods. YMMV

Who the hell still buys GMs besides the odd rednecks?
