2016 Mazdaspeed Mazda3 To Have AWD And 295 HP
According to a recent report published in Japanese car magazine Holiday Auto, Mazda is working hard to release the new Mazda3’s MPS (or Mazdaspeed) version within the next couple of years. The Japanese hot-hatch is expected to feature an all-wheel drive platform, producing 295 horsepower from its SKYACTIC-G turbo gasoline engine. This report lays previous rumors – claiming that the next Mazdaspeed3 would be powered by a diesel – to rest.

I want them to make it as a Sedan. That would be excellent.

I don't understand the obsession Americans have with sedans (and I am an American). What is wrong with a hatch - more practical in many ways.

Is it just for looks? It seems a poor tradeoff.

AWD & a noticeable HP boost is great, but a potential switch to diesel is a GAME CHANGER!

A switch to diesel could also be a hint that Mazda has plans to go after LeMans.

There could never be a sedan version of this car. Toyota has interests in both Subaru and Mazda and has somehow influenced Subaru to cease the production of its WRX Wagon and prompted Mazda to have an all wheel drive Mazdaspeed 3. Mazda's AWD heritage goes back to the mid 80's with the 323 GTX which was short lived due to FORD's business model.
Keep in mind that Subaru fabricates the BRZ and Toyota/Scion version FR-s. At the same time, Mazda will be producing the Yaris which will share a platform with the new Mazda 2.
It would hurt Toyota if these two manufacturers, Subaru and Mazda, competed against one another.
The diesel engine is currently running, and spanking, in the GX class. This will be a viable option for a mazdaspeed 6.
