STUD or DUD? How Does The All-New BMW M3/M4 Sound To YOU?

Ever since the launch of the all-new BMW M3 and M4, it seems that the vehicle's sound has people split. With an all-new six-cylinder, turbocharged motor, you had to KNOW it was going to be a bit dicey.

Some folks think it sounds lovely, others think it sounds weak.

Considering the last-gen car came equipped with a V8, it's pretty hard to follow that brutal sound; however, BMW is well-known for its sweet sounding straight six engines.

So, I have to ask: how does the all-new BMW M3 and M4 sound to YOU?

Now that MORE sound clips are available, I think we can make a pretty educated decision here. It's not like mics are the equivalent of tin cans anymore.


**NOTE: The FIRST THREE clips below feature the stock exhaust. The LAST CLIP shows an M4 Safety Car equipped with the M Performance Parts exhaust, which is titanium — it's more throaty.

Lovely cars but the sound of the 6 doesn't begin to compare to the sound of the outgoing V8. In the face of mpg efficiency, we now have no choice but live with the less stirring sound of the 6. We can always nostalgically remember the powerful sound and grunt of the old 8.

Honestly, I think that V8 sucked. High revving, sure, but seriously lacking torque. AND, the last-gen M3 was far too heavy. Everyone knows it.

It still was the best-in-class car but I think we're looking at a new M product that will be much MORE in line with what folks were expecting of an M.

I honestly don't think it even sounded good. Severely disappointing until the crack at max RPMs.

It sounds perfectly fine for a stock system, it's a nice balance. Anyone wanting louder will go aftermarket - there will be a dozen options within a year or two.

I don't know how you can say this vehicle sounds bad after watching that clip.

00R I saw the video and yeah it sounds 'OK' but not great. I agree the 8 sounded better.

Fail. Poor exhaust sound outside and fake recorded exhaust sounds inside from the speaker system. Bummer since this car was on my comparison list.
