SRT Viper Vs. Porsche 911 Turbo: Will The REAL Sports Car Please Stand Up?

Some will rightly argue that the Porsche 911 Turbo S is too perfect. It just does everything extremely well. Performance, handling, and overall daily usage are all top notch. On the other hand, do those attributes make it less of a sports car? Is the Turbo S more of an ultimate GT car? When pitted against the SRT Viper, it makes you wonder what the true definition of a sports car is.

Should a sports car be too loud, a bit uncomfortable, and too difficult to see out of? What about having a manual gearbox? RWD? Aren’t those requirements? The 911 Turbo S has none of these, coming standard with AWD and a dual-clutch. The Smoking Tire’s Matt Farah and Zack Klapman ponder this very issue. I'd take a Dodge Viper over the 911 no questions asked. The Dodge (again) Viper has the engine in the right place, makes much better noises, and is delightfully unruly in all the right ways. It's not a question of numbers but how a car makes a guy feel. Whenever I have driven a 911, I cannot escape the Porsche Super Beetle stigma. I like the Viper for the same reason I love the TVR Sagaris. It's deliciously shouty, a damn good drive, and at the same time as basic as jeans and a cheeseburger. The Porsche has tons of electrotechnology to make the ill-designed chassis have great handling. If anything I'd rather have a 911S from the early 70s over the modern behemoth (reletively speaking) that the current 911 is.

I think a sports car should have some flaws in it, especially when pushed to the limit. I dont think a true sports car should be ultra refined. That being said I do like the Porsche Turbo and think in this price category there are Alot better options than the Viper & think the Porsche wins out
