VOLKSWAGEN POSTS AUGUST 2006 SALES UP 14.7% FOR 2006
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., September 1, 2006 – Volkswagen of America, Inc. announces its highest monthly sales volume for 2006 with 23,420 retail deliveries for August. This represents a 1.5% increase over August 2005. Volkswagen maintains its marketplace momentum, as year-to-date sales are running 14.7% ahead of 2005.

Significant in the August results is the market acceptance of the recently introduced all-new Rabbit. With a starting price of $14,990 and a high level of standard features and equipment, it has attracted many new buyers to the Volkswagen brand. Rabbit posted sales of 1,983 units versus 946 sales for its Golf predecessor in August 2005.

BTW, the Eos sold 454 units even before it has even been officially introduced. Dealers have only sold them for about a week, and actually only a small percentage of dealers even had Eoses in stock for sale.
