FR-S Gets The Power It Deserves With 3 Stages Of Cosworth Performance

Cosworth has announced a series of power packages for the Toyota GT86, its Subaru BRZ sister car and the North American-only Scion FR-S.

Each separate level adds further upgrades to the FA20 engine platform that underpins the three sport coupes, improving the standard 197bhp output to as much as 380bhp.

It marks a new approach from the Northampton-based tuning company Cosworth, which has previously focused on supplying individual aftermarket parts, rather than developing complete packages.

And I am sure the ricer boys are salivating. Supposedly there no room for a turbo, but I don't buy that. Can Toyota/Subaru really be so dumb as to design a car and not think about the high profit of a high power variant?

So for about 3 grand you can get the base package in stage one for 23 HP. For $670 I can increase the power on my Fiat Abarth about 40 HP.
Hmmm-That's a tough financial decision.

Matt - I don't know where you heard that a turbo won't fit. There are a bunch of companies that offer turbo and superchargers for the car. There is also a company that offers an electric super-charger that uses the turbo housing from a continental aircraft engine and a small but powerful electric motor. I believe it adds about 30 hp and 40 ft lbs for around $1,500. I got a ride in a car equipped with that unit and it works great. Certainly not as much power as one of the turbo kits but more than enough to be a lot of fun as well as affordable. I just Googled BRZ turbo kits. I didn't bother to count them all. Give it a look & see how many come up. Greddy, AVO, HKS, etc..... Here is a link to the electric unit. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_ltL_pbHPY I'm not involved with them but I want one.
