GM Demands Accountability - Cleaning House From Top To Bottom Over Ignition Switch Recall

General Motors Co. will announce this morning that more than a dozen employees and executives have been dismissed from the company or retired as it releases the details of its internal investigation into why the automaker failed for years to recall 2.6 million cars linked to at least 13 deaths and 47 crashes.

GM CEO Mary Barra will update employees on the investigation during a town hall meeting at GM’s Tech Center in Warren where nearly 1,000 employees will gather, followed by a news conference with reporters. Barra will hold a conference call with Wall Street analysts later in the day. The Detroit News first reported late Wednesday that an unknown number of executives at GM were leaving or being fired. A person briefed on the probe said Thursday morning that more than a dozen people are leaving.

Those leaving are from multiple GM units and include a senior lawyer and at least one vice president. GM’s general counsel, Michael Millikin, is not leaving the company, GM has said.

Sorry to hear about anyone losing a job, but in this case unethical and possibly illegal actions led to this.

I would wager many could be sued later in criminal court over this as well.

This is a brilliant move especially if GM follows it with more.

Guarantee that GM will exonerate all the very top executives and target some poor lowly sad sacks to hang the guilt on.

GM = GIANT MISTAKE

You will regret buying any GM vehicle.

GM demanding accountability is like OJ demanding that the real killer be found. GM is the problem. Someone outside GM need to be the one demanding accountability but I don't look for that to happen with this administration in place. The buck never stops there.

This is an opportunity for GM to change it's modus operandus for the better. Firing people in senior levels give notice that no one is immune. I can only hope that GM improves from here.
