TRUCK Lovers, Weigh In! IF This All-New Chrysler Group Invention Becomes Reality, Will It Matter To YOU?

TRUCK Lovers, Weigh In! IF This All-New Chrysler Group Invention Becomes Reality, Will It Matter To YOU?
As I have been keen to admit in the past, I am not a truck guy. It's not that I don't dig 'em, I just haven't educated myself to be an expert like, say, Agent 001 who has owned a bunch. That's partially because I don't ever foresee myself needing a pick-up truck.

Doesn't mean I can't bring you the latest intriguing news about them!

According to a patent filed in 2013, it turns out that Chrysler Group's RAM division may have something in the works for its future pick ups. Though it's been around for more than a year, it was just picked up by the folks at Allpar.

Being that I am not a truck user, I just don't see the value in this particular "innovation," however, I am sure there's plenty of you guys and gals out there that can educate my why a split-folding tailgate would be useful. Or, you can let me know it's pretty much not a big deal.

That said, we want to hear from YOU! Does RAM's all-new idea get you JUICED up or is it "meh?"

Useful in many ways. You can reach further into the bed within having to climb up. You can load heavy items (appliances, atv's, etc...) without worrying about bending the tailgate. Easier to remove 2 small sections instead one big tailgate. Conventional tailgates are one of the most damaged parts of pickups so like the 3 piece bumper, it's cheaper to replace one section if damage occurs to one side.

Agreed. I wonder why none of the domestics picked that up. That would save people a lot of headaches.

I recall that Lincoln had such a segmented opening tailgate back in the late 1990's and early 2000's with their short lived Blackwood pick up.
