Toyota Sales Up 12.6% Lexus brand Sales up 21% for August 2006

Lexus sales are STRONG for this month, compared to most of the industry. Toyota sales are very good too.

Lexus up? BMW down? That just means BMW is more ... exclusive. Yeah, that's right. That's the ticket.

camry hybrids took 10% of camry sales, thats a fair bit.

These gains for Lexus are carried almost solely by the new IS, whose sales are up a staggering 710%!!! Not too difficult to do given the abysmal sales from the year prior. However sales for every single other model, except the new ES(Up a modest 4%), is down! Even the Lexus bread and butter RX is slipping in sales.

While Toyota's results are more scattered and generally better, the gain was largely carried by the jump in RAV sales... which has increased over 100% compared to the previous YTD.

Lexus all the way...LS460 is next for me....

IS is now second only to 3 series in its segment, and combined with ES, blows the whole segment away. Lexus is on a roll.

Prius sales up again as supply becomes more and more available, and total hybrids sold around 20,000. People complain about not getting the exact fuel savings a single hybrid advertises, but the positive (or at least less negative) effects on our planet, when multiplied by 20,000 are staggering.

Good job all around, Toyota

Lexus has identified that (at least in the US) the entry luxury car buyer is split into those wanting affordable luxury and those wanting affordabe sport luxury. Infiniti knew that for a while. Obviously BMW and MBZ are content to offer only one car at that price point, which is a perfectly acceptable business plan for them, but therefore their sales will be lower.

As a follow up to that reasoning, MBZ offers 2 vehicles in the same class. As I pointed out earlier, they should be combined when looking at a realistic picture of their sales in that segment.

The Lexus/Toyota naysayers are going to realize that what they have arrogantly dismissed is embraced by the vast majority of the buying public.

You're a moron. Back in the 1950s, Toyota was on the verge of bankruptcy because of poor quality products. The US government saved Toyota by lending them a contract to produce trucks for them during the Korean War.

You are assuming that the German brands can't better themselves: and that is your mistake. Every company can experience a slip, and come back - strongly.

When other brands are improving just 4-6 % ToyoLexus is increasing by 10s and 20s respectively.

BmW530i, your mama needs to wash your mouth out with soap and whup your rear end for the words you use. It insults your upbringing, your parents and your teachers. Learn to make your point without having to give in to your animal instincts. By the way I hope you are not too proud of that 530i, a very average and rather boring old bag of nuts and bolts. Time to update to something new and exciting, like perhaps a Lexus IS or in your case even a Camry would be a great move up.

But the Germans (particularly BMW) suffer from "do no wrong" syndrome. It can be wrong, but they won't admit it and blindly dive in headfirst.

Some German car fans do, but not me. I have no problems admitting the problems of the German makes. What bugs me on these forums is how the problems are "overblown" or used by fans of Japanese or whatever cars to make German cars look bad. That bugs me.


MB has learned this and have toned down their arrogance by openly admitting Chrysler/MB share parts, which is fine if they're good parts.

Huh? It's the other way around. Chrysler USES parts from MB. MB using parts from Chrysler would hurt their image. Chrysler using parts from MB is a boost to their image. Get your facts right.


Audi hasn't had any major mistakes/problems yet, so the jury is still out on how they would resolve it.

Audi has problems of their own, like every manufacturer. BMW's Bangle issue is one thing. Designs don't appeal to everyone - and it has nothing to do with whether or not the company is great or a flop. BMW is still a great company, despite some of the Bangle designs.

with regards to lexus reliability and german reliability, the 3 series and 5 series were both in the top 20 most reliable new cars in the uk.
current 5er was 9th, 3er (last gen) was 13th. 3 hondas in the top 5 (jazz, accord, civic) and the lexus IS was 1st. but then again, i know someone who had an IS, needed 3 new gearboxes.

You're right. so why haven't the top German brands mastered making practical vehicles? If they did that, they might wold become #1. But of course, that doesn't matter to most of you guys, because "higher sales don't make a car better, they make it more popular."

The Viper and SLR share no parts that I am aware off. Unless you mean 2 cm screws made by the same company...

The SLR and Viper share no parts. The Viper was developed way before the merger (conceived in 1987 and produced in 1992) and newer facelifted versions still make NO USE OF MB parts.

The SLK makes ZERO USAGE of Chrysler parts. It's the Chrysler Crossfire which is based on the old SLK and uses parts from MB.

huu, the viper is made of glass fibre on a proper steel chassis. the slr is a carbon fibre monocoque.
no relation at all.

different engines, different layouts.
the slrs is a 5.5 supercharged handbuilt, the vipers is an 8.3 from a truck!
no comparision.
my moped is quite tall and narrow, i think it shares parts with the queen mary 2.
