Tesla To Offer Patented Technology For Free To Other Automakers - Who Should Take Advantage Of The Offer?

Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk is giving other automakers free access to his company’s patents, reflecting a bid to spur electric-vehicle development, lure talent and potentially generate future customers.

The announcement also comes as Tesla is considering constructing a massive battery factory in partnership with battery cell supplier Panasonic. That $4-billion to $5-billion factory is expected to supply products to other manufacturers — and would certainly benefit if other companies adopt Tesla’s technology.

By committing to an open-source strategy -- the tech world’s phrase for making operating systems or software available to all -- Tesla is taking another step to show it will play by a new set of rules. It is battling with auto dealers and state legislators who want to stop its practice of selling its electric cars exclusively through company-owned stores bypassing dealers.

Jaguar should get Tesla to throw the Bertone B99 styling onto the model S and target the market.

Why? Musk's technology is NOT anything the other companies don't already have.

If that were the case, they would all have products on the market to compete with Tesla, either in: performance, value, luxury, etc., yet none of them do.

That platform is a thing of beauty. Stupidly simple, all the weight low AND mostly inside the wheelbase.

Bolt a Recaro to the middle of that thing and let's get it on the track.

The Chinese and Koreans will and they'll use our addiction to low prices to kill off Tesla. Why buy a Tesla when those guys will give us a clone for $25K and probably a couple free TVs and smartphones.

If that Alcoa aluminum battery gets done, Tesla's patents will be obsolete.
