Porsche Preparing New Cayenne Coupe To Rival BMW's X6 - But Do They Really Need To Go There?

Porsche Cayenne coupe will rival the BMW X6 and could arrive as early as 2015

The fact that BMW sold 250,000 of the first-generation X6 hasn’t gone unnoticed by its rivals. Mercedes will launch the MLC later this year, and now there's a new BMW X6. Not to be left behind, a Porsche insider has revealed that a sportier Cayenne is on the way, too.

Although an all-new Porsche Cayenne is due in 2017 – based on the same platform as the Bentley SUV and new Audi Q7 – this coupé version could arrive next year, as part of the facelifted range.

Sure Porsche needs to go there. There is money to be made and the Porsche name and history. The Porsche will be the better driving car for sure.

Does Porsche need to make ugly vehicles? If there's profit there, then they may choose Yes.

Please this site is too negative with Mercedes ... it's always good for the other brands >> when Mercedes wants to introduce its MLC There were as many negative reviews, a copy of the X6 ... blabla. Benz was the first cut out 4 doors and everyone had followed!

Remembering that pioneers are the ones with arrows in their back (Nissan) the next generation of premium SUV's will all have convertible models in their. Trust me...they will be big big sellers to seniors (easy entry exit, high riding position, 4 wheel drive, safe and fun)and empty nesters of all ages. Evoque in 2015 then the Germans to follow !

Porsche is morphing into Mercedes and BMW. Porsche is no longer a sportscar company...get over it ! McClaren and Ferrari are sportscar companies.

The X6 must be a big seller elsewhere because in the USA its sales are DISMAL.

Matt - When BMW came out with the X6 in 2008, their goal was to only sell 6k to 8k a year in the US. Which is what they accomplished and more. It did so well that now Mercedes, Audi & Porsche are planning to jump into the mix.

The Macan already has an "SUV-coupe" like appearance. Saw the first one one the road the other day and it looked really good. It had more road presence than any other SUV currently. Certainly much more than an X6.

Porsche still makes sports cars but the bulk of their volume is a luxury performance sedan and now 2 luxury performance SUV's. That is what makes them the most money these days. I predict the Macan will be the majority of their sales very soon.

maybe this is finally the right Cayenne as it always should have been. Let the cargo carriers be done by VW and Audi

They just need to sit still and release this when the next generation Cayenne comes in 2017.
