How LOW Can The ELR's Price Go? Cadillac's Plug-In Volt Playing One EPIC Game Of Limbo — Nearly $20k OFF!
Honestly, I never wanted to have to keep writing about the Cadillac ELR. I really don't want to have to keep rehashing how much of a failure this product has been but it seems that General Motors didn't give anyone much of a choice.

Sales are in the toilet. Inventory levels are up. BUT, the prices are coming down, down, DOWN.

Thanks to a story passed along to me from our very own Agent009, it turns out that Cadillac dealers are throwing $12,000 on the hood of the ELR. Of course, on top of that is the tax credit — thank you, Uncle Sam — which drops the price another $7,500.

There's just one problem: The ELR still costs over $56,000 at that point. Considering how much you can acquire a Chevrolet Volt, this isn't exactly a relative bargain.

Given the dire straits, how much FURTHER south do you think the ELR's price will go? Is this it? What happens next?

Our slice is currently $30K and paid for by GM

Only if the ATS Coupe looked like that, it would've been amazing.

I don't care how low the price will go, because I certainly won't be buying one.

The ELR is a nice $35K car, but definitely NOT worth the price of admission at $70K. The steep discounts will move product, but Cadillac just needs to cancel production.

GM's marketing of the Volt and ELR could not have been more stupid. Given how the Volt does not sell well either (because it's $10-15K too expensive for a Chevy), GM should have killed the Volt when the ELR showed up and installed the ELR at the Volt's price point. That would have had the potential to lure to Cadillac younger greenies who believe climate change is real and made Cadillac trendy.

Cadillac should try phoning Tesla and having Tesla build them a Model S with a Cadillac "hat" on the Tesla S chassis if they want into the market of high-end electrics.

One positive note, the number of ELR's to recall will be small.

I would consider buying it at $35K, but not more.

Has anyone even sat in one? This is a fantastic car and its luxurious, unique, special, plus its eco-friendly. I've not driven one but am planning too. I'd never pay this kind of money for it, no way, but its a very special car. FYI: I just went to the Nissan site and priced a fully loaded Leaf.... $36,920... for that econ-crap car. The ELR you can drive across country if you want to... Regardless of Govt incentives, that price for a leaf is ridiculous. The ELR for less than $40K is stoopid. This car if it was priced properly, and marketed effectively it should have sold in decent numbers. GM needs to make some changes, such as sending checks to the folks that purchased them so far, to the tune of about $20-25K. Then make some attractive changes, new wheels, new colors, things that can be done reasonably, but make it look fresh. Then reintroduce it as the "2016 ELR Sport" or "ELR Calais" or something and price it base but well equipped for say $40K and perhaps minor options but a fully loaded one at say $44900. Reintroduce it with attractive lease deals and it could work.

GM has a history of introducing a new car... leaving it to flop or not addressing the major sales issues quickly enough and the thing dies. The Allante' was a decent car, also priced way too high, they addressed most of the issues but once it became the car it should have been, they killed it vs introducing the next generation. This company needs to build cars that are hits... they CAN...they need to address this thing now!

For once I agree with you. Yes some type of repackaging could save this car, but GM isn't smart or nimble enough to do that. This car will become Cadillac latest in a long line of flops: Cimarron, Allante, XLR and now ELR.

BMW i3 or ELR at same price? C'mon, where's the smart money going in that scenario people?

I priced a BMW i3 and the lease was $750 per month plus 2500 up front. I priced a Tesla and they wanted 1000 per month with the equipment I wanted. I priced an ELR and leased it for 700 per month, no money down and took my guzzler SRX without any penalty (only 6 months old). WOW, and the car is absolutely amazing. Bloggers are idiots; don't comment unless you test the goods. I hate driving on highways which is why I got the ELR. Any gas station, go anywhere and feel luxury. I just leased an ELR from Gold Coast in NJ who has the largest number of ELR's, got the equivalent of 22% off the list price and it is the most beautiful and coolest driving experience. I asked for the price and got what I wanted; right in between a fully loaded volt and a base Tesla. No range anxiety here at all. GREAT CAR, PERIOD!!!
