Are Enthusiasts Moving From Fast Cars To Faster SUVs? Land Rover Teases High-Performance Range Rover Sport

Destined to crown the Sport range, reports suggest the performance Range Rover will get more power from its 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine, the same unit found in Jaguar's XKR-S, tuned to at least 542bhp. Other models using that engine include the XFR-S Sportbrake and the XJR.

By comparison, the most powerful version of the standard Range Rover Sport has 510bhp, and can reach 60mph in five seconds with a top speed of 155mph. Sources suggest Land Rover is looking for a 0-62mph time of around 4.5 seconds for the new model.

Most drivers can't handle fast cars now. A high center of gravity mixed with speed and below average driving skills = disaster......

Agree, any performance mods necessary to make it handle like a sports car (lower, stiffer springs, tires) will never make it as light as a sport car/sports sedan and probably prevent it from doing the things SUV's do best- drive over things with greater ground clearance and drive off road or in snow. Don't see the point other than as a status symbol and to say mine is faster than yours. Rather have a sports sedan with similar power/weight ratio and boxy SUV to haul stuff and drive in bad conditions.
