Lexus Finally Adopts Dual Clutch Gear Technology For New IS-F And RC F Coupe
Lexus has been working especially hard to ditch its longtime conservative image. High-performance and an entirely new design language is proving to be a winning combination. The best two mainstream examples of this are the IS F sedan and the new RC F coupe.

Yes, the LFA was a brilliant supercar but it’s just that: a supercar. It wasn’t mainstream. The former two are meant to give the BMW M3 and M4 a hard time.

Sort of the Aluminum vs Steel argument here.

10 Years After VW introduces mainstream Dual Clutch Technology, the cost drops enough for Lexus to introduce it in high end models.

Dual Clutch is pretty much across the entire, VW, Audi, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bugatti range at this point.

@reviews - Hmmm, four responses to one comment? I wonder who is the insecure one of the bunch? You simply have to face facts.

The Japanese automakers rarely go out on a limb without prodding or funding by their own government.

In 2008 Toyota's Jim Press said "The Japanese government paid for 100% of the development of the battery and hybrid system that went into the Toyota Prius"

The Germans chose clean diesel over hybrid technology due to lower costs and simplicity. The hybrid technology could always be adapted to a diesel if advancements ever made it a viable step in evolution.

Without risk there is no reward, it is considered a handout.

Yeah VW has dual clutch technology everywhere but those transmissions are VERY prone to premature failure. The dealer is seeing failures coming in at 75-80K miles in some cases.

VW yes, but not all German cars. The current PDK is bullet proof. No limit on launch control, no limit on track time, very, very low failure rates. Called my many reviews as the best transmission available today.

It's a well known fact that Asian steal and re-engineer our technology and make it better. Ultimately, better for the consumer.

It isn't official, just a rumor at this point. Lexus will be years and yeas down the road with this. The LFA came out with a outdated single clutch gearbox in a market full of DC gearboxes. YAWN. Lexus is going with an 8 speed auto for the next few years. Germans will be doing 8, 9, and 10 speed DCTs by then.

The US government funded electric car development for US manufacturers just to see it shelved, Toyota chose to develop their own approach and made it a commercial success. Toyota also brought multi-valve trains and variable valve timing to the mainstream, all while improving reliability. A VW vendor likely developed their transmission.
