Consumer Group Sues CarMax For Selling Recalled Vehicles That Weren't Repaired
Car-safety groups and a U.S. senator asked the Federal Trade Commission today to investigate CarMax Inc., the biggest seller of used cars nationally, for deceptive advertising claims.

In a petition filed with the FTC, the groups allege that CarMax engages in deceptive advertising by claiming every vehicle it sells passes a rigorous 125-point inspection. The groups said the inspection fails to examine and disclose whether a car has been recalled and repaired.

The petition also seeks to block CarMax sales of unrepaired recalled cars.

Why anyone buys from CarMax in the first place baffles me. They have been caught selling defective cars too many times.

It's about time consumers that were falsely sold vehicles put an end to it. Just because they are a large corporation and have continuously grown year after year does not mean they can do whatever they please and get away with it. Their own employees have sued them. But rarely any buyers. This should light a fire under many people who have bought a car from CarMax and come to find out there was problems before their purchase, to stand up for themselves. I do not know one person who would be okay with purchasing a vehicle knowing that it had been recalled, yet never repaired. I do not know many, but the ones I do, drive cars and not brand spanking new ones. I understand they are not BMW or Mercedes, but they portray an image of a salvaged titled car the second you walk into the large warehouse like entrance with their highest price vehicles parked inside shiny and spotless. They make you believe you can trust them, when more and more stories are surfacing that you can't. Instead of taking care of their customers, they would rather fight them. Why not fight them back. No ones seems to want to attempt this. I am writing this due to the fact that I purchased a vehicle from CarMax in Orange County back in 2011 and it has been the biggest nightmare of my life. After doing some research, this is eye opening. For such a prominent and trustworthy company with their banners waving high and mighty above those highly priced cars in "pristine condition" parked inside the entrance, they do not show any customer service excellence to unsatisfied customers. Only when you are buying the car. To compare CarMax to a local used car dealership is not correct what so ever. CarMax is supposed to be a dealership we can trust and believe in. The local dealerships, do not conduct their own inspection. A car is a car, people buy them all the time and get rid of them all the time. For me, this car was an accomplishment, that as I stated before, turned into a nightmare. I would do anything to get my car I traded in back. This law is serving justice for those who were sold cars under the impression that they were "up to date and serviced", when in reality, they were not. CarMax needs to stand down on this one. Just my opinion, but I respect that everyone has their own.
