BMW M4 vs Audi RS5 Video Shoot Out - Will The Benchmark Of The Class Please Stand Up?
We have heard about the M4 being tested against the retiring Audi RS5 before, but we didn’t have proof of them actually going against each other or video of the entire contest. Now, we can actually see them going at it, and it’s a marvelous experience.

The guys from Auto Express, Owen Mildenhall to be more precise, took the two around their test track to see how the new guy fares against the aging legend. It’s time for the BMW turbocharged engine to go up against the naturally aspirated Audi unit.

Since the last version of the M3 is considered a better track car than then the RS5, what exactly was the purpose of this comparison? Anyone think that BMW would make the new generation of the M3 worse performing than the last generation?

Oh well, it's fun to watch him burn up rubber with those useless power slides.

This is simply a comparison for the Headlines.

When the differences in performance are this close - the AVERAGE buyer of the car will likely not be able to replicate the test results anyway. SO - it is for bragging rights and little else.

Tom - 2.3 seconds is a pretty large gap in performance between 2 cars on a short and twisty track. That is good for at least 2 turns of distance between both of them. and after a 2nd lap of momentum from the first the gap would widen alot more to most likely 6 or 7 seconds ...

Not supprised the M4 won, but I surprised by how much. These two cars are direct competitors, but for one to be 2.3 second faster over such a short twisty track, where you would think AWD would have the upper hand is nothing short of massive.

Agreed on a tight twisty track a 2.3 second gap is huge. A longer track would create a much greater distance between the 2 cars.

Funny how these comparisons are useless to some on this site, when they will clamour that the M4 vs the Porsche Carrera S is a better comparison or with a much smaller and lighter Cayman GTS.

where is nuttie with his pro-audi propaganda?

These are the top of the line performance cars right? So where better to find which cars performs better than on a track.. It proves the M4 is the better performance car...it doesn't mean you have to drive it like that on the road. While the M4 may go through rear rubber if you turn of esc, the RS5 will go though front tires quite fast since they have to turn, brake, put power to the ground, and support a majority of the cars weight : )

a Crazy stat on the track they use is the New M4 is the 4th fastest lap time they have recorded at 1:09.90 ... Just behind the GTR at 1:09.30 .

It is turning out to be a huge track improvement over the previous generation ...

Well said BobM. I agree with you totally. Who really cares these comparisons? Both of these cars are awesome, turn heads and are a blast to drive. This is just the natural progression of Auto companies competing in today's world. The new M4 just came out so it had better beat out the RS5 that it's had several years to be developed against. I'm sure the next generation RS5 if Audi chooses to release it will beat out the current BMW M4. Hell, both of these cars will be beat at the end of this fall when the new C63 makes is debut. However, You will still get more chicks checking you out in that RS5 than you will in that new M4.

Hmm just like when the RS5 came out in 2010 that didn't stop comparisons with the e92 M3 which came out in 2007. Also the 2007 M3 still was able to beat the RS5 in almost every head to head comparison, and despite the RS5 being 3 years newer it was only barley quicker or just as fast as the M3. The RS5 didn't move the game along. The M4 being considerably quicker and more efficient has moved the game along.

Won't change minds. People paying this sort of money want cars they find attractive with a reputation for sportiness; if a rich guy things the M4 is less attractive than the RS5, a few seconds on the track is negligible.

M4 looks soo much better, it looks sporty and dynamic like a sports coupe should. The RS5 looks like a bloated highway cruiser.
