DRIVEN: So, What Happens When You Take The Already Ridiculously Fast Nissan GT-R And Make It Even Faster?

I remember when the Nissan GT-R made its debut. It had to have been one of the most discussed vehicles on the 'net and folks were fuming. Had it beat Porsche in its own backyard? Were the first cars really making less than 500 horsepower? Was it too video game-y?

It's become obvious over the years that the GT-R is a beast. It comes down to whether or not you really care about speed over the driving experience, and how much pain you can take — the GT-R has brutal acceleration and an equally brutal suspension.

Finally, it's all culminated in Nissan's most glorified GT-R, the NISMO.

Featuring 600 horsepower and 481 lb.-ft. of torque being pumped out via the car's 3.8-liter bi-turbo V6, as you'd expect, power won't be an issue. But enough of the introductory nonsense, what does the initial review think?

...It's not all about brute acceleration; the car is terrific in corners, with tons of grip and precise steering. Over the French two lanes, it simply goes where you point it, making it tough to get in trouble. The Recaros -- manually adjusted -- held us in place perfectly. This car is a very, very serious competitor to the Porsche 911 Turbo S. Would be interesting to see them go head-to-head around a handful of tracks. I would expect the Nismo to edge out the Porsche based on Nordschleife times alone but I suppose a 0-150-0 test and other fun stuff couldn't hurt.

It'll be interesting to see if folks will pay 150K for a Nissan GT-R, no matter how well it performs. People who can afford that kind of cash usually want luxury with their performance. And those who want absolute GTR beasts can go to the tuners for their race track monsters (for less money).

Is it a direct competitor for the 911 Turbo? Maybe in performance, but not in class.

High performance have a price, and is NOT cheap...So yes any High performance car is a luxury car...

Keep on hating haters, this is one bad ass car. The only reason they keep producing more performance versions is because people keep buying them. Give credit were credit is due. Both great cars just different types of customers.
