Cadillac Says It Can't Compete With The Germans But Will Try To Sell Cars In Europe Anyway
Cadillac is still pushing to sell cars in Europe, General Motors president Dan Ammann has told Autocar.

"Clearly our number one priorities are the US and China, but in the longer term there is a role for Cadillac," he said.

Ammann is also realistic about the prospect of Cadillac's fortunes in the world's most competitive luxury market and taking on Audi, BMW and Mercedes in their home markets.

Cadillac's issue is that it does not have diesel engines that would make it viable in Europe.

Cadillac's issue is that it does not realize that their brand died once. And is now struggling to get back up again.

I mean, just how stupid can GM be?

Also, WTF does the title of this article mean? It's not that Cadillac CAN'T compete with the Germans in Europe. They simply realize that those brands are already established there and they are taking a different approach.

This title is very negative and misleading...I'm starting to hate this site more and more and I"m a real car person.

I support Cadillac's global aspirations and I hope they do well globally, as we'll as Europe. Someone has to represent the home team.

" They simply realize that those brands are already established there and they are taking a different approach."

So in other words, just like the title says they can't compete. People who like GM just love to create one excuse after another. What you just said is the same exact thing!!!! They can't compete.

Benzes1...Your name says it all. So in other words are YOUR WORDS, not mine or the truth.
Perception doesn't mean you can't compete. Any SMART business person or company will follow the money. If the money is not in Europe, then what's the point. Clearly it takes time and will not happen overnight. Cadillac has proven and is still proving it can compete. At any rate, it's your opinion and your money...buy what you want. I'm supporting the home team here, bud! #Cadillac

Cadillac can't even beat the Germans here in the U.S. so it can totally forget about Europe of China.

The only way for a company to truly take on the Germans in the US is if they start a totally new brand, with no history or reputation or with a sister/parent company with a stellar reputation. Lexus did it for 12+ years, and is coming back. Tesla is doing it currently. Acura did it for a while and has the potential to come back.
It's just way too hard for a company like Cadillac (and Buick and Lincoln) whose heritage evokes memories of big, old luxury barges. Even Audi continues to struggle to catch up after decades of also-ran status. And Cadillac is simultaneously trying two approaches: the sporty characteristics of the ATS and CTS alongside the more relatively plush and luxurious offering of the XTS. And it's still not helping them make any headway.
