Cadillac Boldly Says They Are Taking On Tesla And BMW - How Can They Succeed With No Tools In The Chest?
After taking the marketing reins of the American luxury manufacturer last November, Uwe Ellinghaus has been hard at work trying to put Cadillac back on its former glory's tracks. According to the German-born CMO, GM's luxury arm is targeting potential Tesla Motors customers with the ELR and BMW owners with the rest of the model lineup.

Uwe has formerly worked for BMW and what he learned there kind of shows in his work with Cadillac. Take the brand's May 2014 sales volume as a prime example - compared to the same month last year, Caddy moved 6 percent more cars according to Automotive News Data Center. Sales department aside, Mr. Ellinghaus' brand strategy had a big influence on Cadillac's May sales.

Another round in empty rhetoric. The ELR is a joke and BMW is far too ahead now to worry about Cadillac's one or two good performing cars.

GM should BUY Tesla.

NO. GM is the worst company in the world to buy another car company. Tesla will be out of business in less than 3 years if GM bought them. GM can't even run itself.

Tesla's longevity is questionable anyway.

With complete access to all of Tesla's patented technology "free" - I would expect that ALL of the plug in Hybrids would benefit.
AND - there was a time when BMW existed and Lexus did not - now Lexus competes with BMW in the USA - and Lexus product that sells is largely unexciting.
So - If Cadillac could produce an ELR that had a range around 150 miles - and not raise the price - it could sell some cars. If the electric makers could come together on a quick charge infrastructure - with the same plug - that would allow even more players into the market too.

And if Cadillac produced cars with some more interior size (the ATS and CTS are small inside)- they would attract more American buyers and could therefore compete on the sales level. Would they compete for the same buyer - probably not - but then Lexus does not have the same buyer as BMW either.

AS far as GM buying Tesla - the Tesla stock price makes it far too expensive - and GM would be better off buying Mazda or Honda.

For sure, Cadillac (and GM) have made some serious blunders. But what's with all of the Cadillac-hate going on with this site? Seems like they are getting bashed every single day.

I don't get how the ELR became a flop, other than they could have used the lithium batteries to increase range. It is a great looking car. Everytime America makes a good car it is rejected or doesn't sell, while the shit cars sell like hot cakes. Shows that here in America, the average driver is clueless and so gullible. They are so easily fooled and swayed by gimmickry.

Cadillac is closer to BMW than they have ever been.
