Android vs Apple - Would You Rule Out A Car Because It Doesn't Interface With Your Phone?
At Wednesday’s I/O conference, Google unveiled Android Auto, its answer to Apple’s CarPlay system. In compatible vehicles—the first of which are due by the end of 2014—users will be able to use their Android phone’s interface through the car’s dashboard screen to navigate with Google Maps, play Spotify, send texts, and more.

There are sneaky elements to Google’s plan for Android Auto, but don’t worry about that just yet. For now, all you really need to know is which carmakers support which platform.

I would absolutely rule out a car that does not support my phone system. If the car doesn't support it, that just shows a LAZY manufacturer.

My BMW supports my HTC One M8. It plays Slacker radio wirelessly through the Navigation system, as well as my Ipod and phone book. What more does it half to do? BMW has been compatible for awhile now.

if I tracked my car, I would hope that the track would be able to provide a chip and thus accomplishing the same information? Or why not go with GOPro. Yet BMW does offer a BMW Connected drive for the Android phones. I am still not sure what the real benefit to the driver is....

No. But I would rule out a car because it has a crummy iPod interface. Burning CDs or using memory cards or USB stick is so last decade.

If I had to choose a car based on phone support, I'd pick a car that uses Apples CarPlay but since Audi is supporting both systems, my choice remains simple.

It's a great convenience, but I would not rule a car out due to lack of this feature.
