HERNDON, Va., July 1, 2014 – Audi reported June 2014 sales of 16,867 vehicles, a 23.1% improvement that stands as the brand’s 42nd consecutive month of record monthly sales. The second quarter of 2014 also set a record with 49,121 vehicles sold. Audi sales year-to-date increased 13.6% to 84,349 vehicles sold with the January through June 2014 period now standing as the best first-half sales in Audi U.S. history.

“In just six months this year, Audi has sold more vehicles in the U.S. than it did over a full year as recently as 2009,” said Mark Del Rosso, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Audi of America. “The spring launch of the all-new A3 sedan is the latest building block for this achievement along with the continued success of our sport-utility models and a strengthened presence in the top premium segments. Underpinning all of that is a steadfast commitment to elevate the Audi brand through a sustainable business model.”

Audi June sales improved throughout the lineup when compared to year-earlier results. The A3, A4, A6, A7, A8, Q5 and Q7 all posted sales gains.

The all-new 2015 Audi A3 Sedan recorded its strongest month with 2,452 vehicles sold in June, its third full month in the U.S. market. The Audi ‘A-segment’ lineup will expand again in late summer with the arrival of the all-new as Audi A3 Cabriolet, A3 TDI, S3 performance sedan and the Audi Q3 crossover.

Audi sales momentum continued at the top of the Audi lineup, as well. The Audi A6, Audi A7, Audi A8, and Audi Q7 made up one-third of total Audi sales with an increase of 16% YTD.

The momentum continues. June is the second consecutive month where Audi has experienced monthly growth of more than 23% in the U.S. With the A3 Cabriolet, A3 TDI Sedan, S3 Sedan and Q3 Crossover all making their sales debut in the next 3 months, 2014 looks to be a hugely successful year for Audi in the U.S. market.

Interesting article. May make Lexus rethink their position on an entry-level sedan, and make Acura smack itself on the head for a relatively tepid offering in the ILX.

"It is a younger demographic, move-up customers who are wowed by the fact it's an authentic Audi," said Mark Del Rosso, Audi of America chief operating officer.

The Audi A3 isn't stealing any of the sales from the larger Audi A4, said Del Rosso and Scott Keogh, Audi of America president.

This shows that Audi correctly read the market and has differentiated between its A4 and A3 Sedans well enough to the point where the A3 Sedan is not cannibalizing sales of the A4 Sedan.

BMW should watch closely.

Considering the current A4 is only around 3 grand more than the A3, most people would opt for the A4.

The test comes when the new A4 is launched with an expected rise in price. Will the A4 be able to survive the gap in price with its younger sibling.

Comparatively the C Class starts at about $6k more than the CLA yet has maintained its base due to the CLA being a niche product.

It's no wonder

They will not drive the A4 up in price much for two reasons

1. It will start to encroach on A6 pricing
2. It needs to stay competitive against the 3 series and C Class. Pricing needs to stay slightly aggressive against these two to maintain sales and volume

The new A4 will continue up market as will the new C Class. Neither will cut into either's market. Pricing is going to be the issue. The price difference with the current and the upcoming C will likely change. A fully loaded C is now just over $50K and the new one is expected to be much higher. Then the new E comes and the pricing will continue to increase...thus the purpose of the CLA...keeping the entry point at $30K. My local MB dealer's cheapest CLA was $38K., plus taxes and that car is over $40K. $40K for that car is ALOT of money. The CLA AMG is an astounding $60K++ give me strength...that's outrageous.

xjug, I think the upcoming Audi S3 Sedan will steal some sales from the CLA45 AMG. With a base price of $41,995, the S3 Sedan is nearly $6K cheaper than the CLA45 AMG and comes with more standard equipment while offering nearly the same level of performance.

I would concur with that analysis. The A3 is already a better car, better equipped and with Quattro and a lower price... it will appeal to a wider market. The CLA AMG will appeal to only those that must have an AMG product. But for that kind of money there are a lot of other cars that are better values. I don't see many spending that type of coin on that particular CLA.

Audi is doing well like it or not, to the point that customers who had left Merc and BMW for Lexus are buying German again, mostly Audis!

Accordingly, BMW must watch closely and Mercedes should start taking note.
