First Reviews Coming In Of New Mercedes S500 Coupe. Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner?

Old name. New tricks. That is Mercedes-Benz’s brilliant new S500 Coupé, which resurrects one of the German car maker’s most revered model nomenclatures and pioneers an advanced new tilting chassis that allows it to corner in similar fashion to a hard-charging motorcycle.

It is a wonderfully stylish car capable of effortlessly dispatching its occupants over vast distances in first rate comfort as well as providing entertaining handling and great agility for such a large car on challenging sections of blacktop.

In all respects it is a more appealing proposition than the old CL500.

The dash's basic shape looks like it should be in a truck, but at least it doesn't have the iPad duct taped the the dashboard look that Mercedes is fond of elsewhere. The overall look is also strangely retro for a non-retro car. The detailing on the seats is busy and the color contrast is gaudy. Too blingy for me to take seriously, but for Mercedes' buyer demographic (i.e. people without taste other than in their mouth) it will be a huge hit. I'd rather have a pit of solid blackness with the chrome accents.

As usual Matt nails it. The look is rich, but too blingy. Its fine materials and elegant feel to the touch are one thing, but combined... it looks like a trashy woman. TOO much... trying too hard to impress...its almost to the point of being a rat with a gold tooth!

exterior is AWESOME, interior is hit and miss: love the comfort/leather features, but hate the multiple high tech digital read outs - overkill.
