Honda Plays The Numbers And Posts A 3.6% Gain In June - Acura Drops 11.8% For Month
American Honda Motor Co., Inc. today reported June 2014 Honda and Acura vehicle sales of 129,023 units. The Honda division posted sales of 117,817 units in June while Acura sold 11,206 units in the same period.  Year-to-date American Honda sales reached 739,436 units.

Honda

Honda's core models—Accord, Civic and CR-V—continue to set the retail pace through the first half of 2014, with the Civic up 8.7 percent and Accord increasing 2.1 percent in June. However, retail consumers appeared to take a breath last month coupled with an unusually short number of selling days, the shortest June in five years.

  • Bucking a recent market shift toward SUVs, Civic is up 8.7 percent in June and 5.3 percent for the first six months of 2014—its best such period in a decade
  • Accord sales rise 2.1 percent in June
  • CR-V, the industry's most popular SUV, posted a year-to-date gain of 6.1 percent for its best-ever 6-month sales performance
  • Despite low inventory as supply ramps up, the all-new 2015 Fit is driving new traffic at Honda dealerships

"Despite an easing of the pace in June, the larger sales trend throughout the industry remains robust," said Jeff Conrad, Honda division senior vice president and general manager. "Our core products remain strong and though we're still filling its supply pipeline, the new 2015 Fit is selling very well and we expect it to add yet another strong pillar to Honda sales in the near future."

Acura

Overall Acura sales continue to reflect the decreasing supply of TL and TSX models as the company prepares for launch of the 2015 TLX line of luxury performance sedans later this summer. With an unprecedented first half of the year, MDX and RDX continue to sell at a near record pace, pushing Acura truck sales up 6.1 percent for the month.

  • Acura truck sales rise 6.1 percent in June
  • MDX June sales rose 27.7 percent on sales of 4,890 units
  • Posting its best-ever six-month sales performance, the Acura MDX led the division with sales of 30,644 units, an increase 68.4 percent over last year

"The MDX and RDX had a stellar first half of the year, certainly a good indicator that the Acura brand is moving in a strong direction," said Mike Accavitti, Acura division senior vice president and general manager. "While we expected the reduced supply of sedans to impact sales this summer, the upcoming launch of the all-new 2015 TLX lineup heralds a new era for the Acura brand."

This is a prime example of how come you need to read the numbers not the claims.

Honda is the only one that uses DSR vs Raw monthly figures. Toyota posts both depending on which looks best.

Example:
Honda brand sold 5333 LESS vehicles than last year yet posts A 3.6% In sales due to DSR reporting. Everyone else would have shown a 4.3% DECLINE for the month.

Acura posted a DSR decrease of 11.8% for the month when everyone else would have shown an 18.6% DECREASE for the month.

So just a word to the wise is to look at the figures not the claims.

WOW!!! If you closely look at the figure posted Honda is HURTING. I see so many NEGATIVE numbers from last year to this year. Many bloggers including myself said numerous times (in summary). Honda's are reliable but sure UGLY. The "bird-beak" ZDX is down over -93% for the month and over -76% for the YEAR. Keep up the great work Honda by "listening" to people when they told you 2 years ago, get rid of the bird-beak. Anybody remember when Honda said they'd keep the bird-beak. Keep listening to your customers - sure. (I've owned 3 Accords many years ago and 2 TLs 2004/2007).

Honda's style is terrible looking on a couple of the models. Look at the Civic inside. They had to do a "major refresh" (supposedly) almost immediately into the car's cycle. They had so much dang plastic inside and people complained. The inside of the Civic is so cluttered/disorganized. All these layers of plastic and buttons everywhere just make me want to go out to buy one - NOT!! We've all been saying, time to hire some new designers. The numbers don't lie.

It doesn't matter what auto manufacturer it, if you built an UGLY car your sales will suffer - reliability or not.

Alright, Acura, get your heads out of your asses and get the new TLX and RLX SH out already. Can't imagine being an Acura sales person with nothing to sell.

Poor Acura has lost his compass/direction and buyers have gone elsewhere.

What are these Acura 'trucks' that are listed? They phantom duallies or pick ups?

Not a marketing expert here but shouldn't Acura hear from its customers? People are screaming about how ugly that front grill is.
