When It's Time To Trade Their Porsche Cayenne Will Most Buy Another Or Go For The Macan?
We're starting to see a good scattering of new Porsche Macan's on the streets and highways of SoCal. And it's a hot little number as WE predicted it would be.
It's really not a smaller Cayenne but a bigger Cayman in our opinion.
It does just about everything right.
So we wanted to know if it may become too good for Porsche's own good.
What do we mean by that?
Well, do you think when current Cayenne customers are ready to trade or their leases end will they end up re-upping for another Cayenne or will they downsize/downpay to the Macan?
YOU make the call in our comments below...and check out some of our great photo gallery shots of the Macan!

Yes in large numbers...enthusiasts, young childless couples, singles, empty nesters, seniors, newly divorced, one child couples and commuters will flock to the Macan in large numbers because its a better driver, better looking and more compact. This leaves parents with multiple children, real estate agents, people who regularly carry three passengers in comfort and those who have to have biggest most expensive model to feed their egos. Former group much much larger...predict Macan will outsell bigger brother 3 to 1 over next five years.

Not for me. At least not yet. Currently have a 5 year old'10 3.2 Q5 that has been flawless. Was looking to trade it in for a Macan and Porsche dealer is seriously low balling our trade and asking for MSRP for the Macan.
A better deal for us will be an SQ5 that offers an ACNA+loyalty discount and offers similar power numbers as the Macan S.
The Macan S, although a great driver with the PDK and more exclusive, since its new, is very less practical with little room in the back/trunk.
It'll be an SQ5 for now, until all the hoopla around the Macan dies down.

The Mecan looks like an infected wart on wheels.

Porsches are pure profit, but I have to laugh as each Porsche Toerag and Porsche Q5 is sold. The Toerag is a dud as a VW but its magic as a Porsche for sales. What's next? A Porsche Tiguan?

It doesn't matter if Cayenne owners purchase another Cayenne or a Macan - they're still buying a Porsche. The Macan will be a huge success in my opinion because it combines Porsche's sports-car attributes with the fast-growing SUV market at an affordable price. That's a win-win formula. Throw in the valuable Porsche badge and you've got yourself a winner.

Correction...they are buying a VW or an Audi. The Macan cannot be called "affordable" in any stretch of the imagination.

MattDaringer, you think most Porsche buyers know the Macan is based on the Audi Q5? No chance. Also, the Macan is more affordable than the Cayenne, 911 and Panamera. It gives Porsche access to a huge new market.

I disagree, Porsche buyers will see the Macan as a downgrade from the Cayenne...it's like going from a 911 to a Boxster. Who does that? Macan is small and overpriced. It's not like you're going to get a deal at the Porsche dealership...you're still gonna pay so why downsize?

Macan looks stupid AND cheap which is unfortunate for Porsche. Why buy a Cayenne when you the Touraeg is the same car, or get a Q7 if you want more upscale.
I can't think of Porsche enthusiasts considering the Cayenne to be a real Porsche. Their biggest vehicle is also their cheapest vehicle? What the hell is up with that?

I would stick with the Cayenne. It has much more presence than its little sibling. I would consider the Macan a downgrade meant for the proletariat who always rush for cheaper options. Furthermore the Cayenne offers the naturally aspirated GTS which is a joy to drive. The Macan still suffers from turbo lag and is not in the class of the GTS.
It is interesting to note that dimensionally the main difference is in length and height. Width-wise there is only half an inch difference. So for its size, the Macan has a fat arse!

Another point is that the Cayenne starts to resemble a hatchback because it has no height. It is only 63.9 inches so it certainly doesn't have the grandeur of an SUV. I seriously would not want my SUV mistaken for a hatchback! I'll reserve final judgement for when I see it in the metal but for now I'm leaning heavily in favour of the Porsche Cayenne GTS - 2nd Generation.
