I'm warming up to the design. The interior is definitely one of the best BMW interiors to date. Looks HQ compared to the rest of the BMW lineup I am afraid to say.

ive never seen 2 air vents on the same side, on top of each other. Do you think this is going to be a new trend?

I agree with BMW530i...The new X5's interior is BMW's best overall interior design to date. It actually look's better than the Audi Q7's interior.

the interior look great, but I don't think its better than the Q7.

the fuel economy might be a huge deciding factor between the two.

It is a good looking truck, but I am sorry for a high end SUV this interior is very late 90's and borring. The only thing new about the interior is the shifter.

Man! this is not the time to mess around, the competion is already ahead of us in interior design. First they let Bangle walk like an Egyptian the 5 series(Camel butt).
Then the X3 looks like a toddler sneaker on wheels and now this??
Danm! I know we love BMW, but we have let them know when they get lazy.

Wow, is that a interior of a 50K+ vehicle? Looks pretty plain and bland to me. I agree with silverarrow2, the only thing new about the interior is the shifter. I'm sorry, but they really need to play catch up.

I think interiors can be the hardest to judge with photos alone.

What I am seeing with modern cars is their interior design layout is becoming more organic and simple, uncluttered surfaces and ergonomic controls.

Quality is also increasing, we are seeing better fit and finish, and most importantly better quality and feel of materials. This goes for leather, plastics, vinyl, etc.

Photos often don't reveal the 'feel' and ambience of a cars interior, and a good example of which is the Porsche Cayenne. In photos the interior looks plain, but once you sit in the car, you notice all the fine stitching on the dashboard and attention to detail. Suddenly the simple design makes sense, as it does not distract the driver and detract from the craftsmanship.

The Cayenne interior has a rich feel and smell about which cannot be seen in pictures. The same will apply for the new X5.

On the other side of the scale, we see the glitzy and complicated architecture of, say the new MDX, and suddenly we hear how amazing the interior is.

In reality, it may not employ the best materials, and may be awkward to look at once you are in the car. But who cares, right? It looks good in the press photos.

Modern interiors are about more than just basic design. Modern interiors strive to be a functional, well-tailored cockpit for the driver and passengers.

Great pictures. A few comments:-
No-one would buy an off-white/cream X5 in the UK! We tend to go for black, silver or a metallic grey. You will see a few other colours around, but not so many. This trend goes for nearly all luxury SUV's, although some cars look georgeous in dark blue metallic.

I have always had diesel sport X5's and these tend to have several months waiting time in the UK (the last one 6 months plus)- they are always sought after and are considered by many to be the "pick of the pack" because petrol is expensive to run. The sports models look more modern inside because they use the metal finish instead of wood and we always have the side step which beefs up the appearance. The only problem with the exterior of the diesel is the black grille, which looks rather dull with a black body. Is the diesel sold in the States? It is the most sought after here. The X5 has always been highly rated by magazines, but now faces stiff competition from the Volvo (wallows too much for me) and the Discovery (boxy looks, not sure about reliability and not so much grunt in the diesel as the X5). Fewer high end X5s in the UK, most people seem to go for a Range Rover. New ML a live contender though. A final comment, the middle row seats look less chunky than on my car. Is this to save space to get the 3rd row of seats in? Or is this my imagination? Disco seats are definitely on the thin side too.
