2007 Dodge Avenger!

"It seems that Name Already In Use, over at the SRT-forums, procured some insider shots of the 2007 Dodge Avenger, which may be revealed in Paris later this month. The Avenger stands to benefit from the muscular genes embedded in many Dodge products, certainly a positive when compared to its much-maligned sibling, the Sebring.

Although its anyone's guess who can actually be credited for the photos, we feel rather confident of their legitimacy, although the jury will be out until we lay eyes (and lenses) on Dodge's newest people mover in Paris.

I like it! I think the body is well-styled, and it has a better roofline than the Caliber or Sebring. The only problem I have is the front. I think the headlights are too wide, and the grille isn't deep enough. The bumper seems to jut out. I think it would look better in black. But anyways, great job Dodge!

What I don't understand:

Cars are getting better, right? In Europe, even small cars look expensive, what with their xenon headlights and thorough attention to detail on important things like panel gaps and trim etc. The mid-sized European cars of today are just as well designed and put together as luxury cars of 10 years ago.

So why does this 2007 (!) Dodge look so cheap? The front bumper looks aftermarket, and the headlights look like a 'home-made modification'.

Chose chrome-effect wheels are absolutely revolting, and the entire car looks dated and sorry for itself.

Why do American car companies find it so hard to make a good car? Are they all strapped for cash?

The new Caliber is a prime example, it's a brand new model, yet the interior is the worst I've ever seen on a new car. Completely rubbish is an understatement.

I used to love the innovative cars Chrysler produced, but their new range (that goes for Ford and GM too) of cars are just dreadful.

Absolutely dreadful.

Remember, this is a R/T. It has more aggressive body work than the lower end models. The chrome wheels will probably only be on the R/T, so I would wait to see how the standard Avengers turn out.

What a lame excuse.

The only trick Chrysler is pulling is the retro/gangster trick.

What about the cars themselves? Never mind how many people buy them.

The 300C was a good attempt, but other than the styling the car is mediocre.

What Dodge needed was a great small car to boost their image in other countries. Instead they gave us the Caliber, an odd-looking, badly-built hatch with a stupid fold-down radio in the boot and lacklustre Korean engines.

Sound like the recipe for a winning formula?

Only if every single other car company in the world had to re-launch their early 90's models. I'd call that an even match.

It looks like a mini Charger. While the Sebring doesn't look like a mini 300. Therefore the Avenger looks better.

I'd go for none.

Since your asking, I'd for for a Fusion over the Avenger, because at least the Fusion is tasteful.

Will, did you look at the other Avenger pictures? The C-pillar is a melting pot of about 30 different styles, the front was stolen off a truck and it looks completely dis-jointed from every conceivable angle.

Hey!

If there's one thing I could never be guilty of when it comes to cars, its being boring.

I love Renault's, the new Citroen C6, Alfa Romeo models, Fiats, and especially the classic Saab 900 Turbo.

So when I think a car looks disjointed, it probably is. I know the difference between 'interesting' and 'ugly', and while the Avenger may not be ugly in the traditional sense, it's still not an attractive car.

And about the use of Charger styling cues, they actually work on the Charger.

Sorry Will - I don't really see this as an attractive design. I know it is going to be geared towards the cheaper Charger crowd, but it just looks like Dodge is relying too much on that design.

But I'm not saying that it's bad to work off of a current design that is selling, but it just might be a bit much. The whole aggressive thing just doesn't work on a car this small....IMO, which is mostly wrong most of the time.

Well, I can say one thing...I looks a lot better than the old, ugly, underdeveloped Sebring (I will not even go there).

While it looks okay, but I will not fun the dealerships to buy one, It doesnt seem to be able to compete with the better midsize sedans of the world.
While this Avenger looks like a mini Charger, the Sebring is not a baby 300.

The only people that will be taking this UGLY JUNK in droves will be RENTAL COMPANIES.
This Avenger is the Perfect Example of an AMRICAN CAR
Cheap/BadlyDesigned/Retro Styling/Sedan With Truck Front/Looks More Powerful Than Actually Is/Handling & Braking an Afterthought.

Oh I forgot CHEAP & HORRIBLE INTERIOR

like all american cars, it's stlye over substance.
and when the style isn't that good, the substance must be dreadful. it may look muscular, but it's a suit. all coat and no knickers.

the caliber is much better with the 2.0 diesel from a golf (yes, really, a vw) and 6 speed manual, and vw will be working with chrysler on future projects, so maybe it will lend a hand with the interiors.

It isn't a beautiful or a good looking design. But it works in a 300/Charger way. On the other hand, the Sebring is a hodgepodge of styling elements resulting in nothing interesting.

Its going to sell...to the U.S. public no matter if you like it or not. you guys just bash u.s. cars cuz ur so addicted to nice cars. the only people who look at this site are car enthuisits. I have a nice car but so other people dont have the money. If i didnt have the money i would buy this car. There has to be a low end market. Lets ask people on the street and see what they say about it...they dont know anything about cars cuz they dont study them like the people on this website do.

My question is how many of the people posting would be in the market for a car in this price range?
I don't like it. But its alot better looking than I thought it would be based on what we have seen of the Sebring. just my thougts.. oh and I wont be in the market for this type of car.. but if I was I would get a Mazda 6.

Well, it's official...Dodge is now the manufacturer of some of the ugliest cars on the market.

I used to think the original Avenger was just too cool...this one makes me throw up.

the sebring is going to pwn its class
its better value than camry, altima, milan, and accord hands down.

its not supposed to be a mini 300 so get that out of your head. its been redesigned completely with a choice of 3 powerfull engines and more standard saftey and convienence options than all of those listed above and is cheaper(much cheaper as the trim levels go up.)
