We Like It Cheap! Lexus Buyers Respond To Less Expensive GX Model
While unibody-based CUVs continue to outnumber and outperform sales of body-on-frame SUVs, Lexus is seeing success this year with its GX.

Sales of the midsize SUV more than doubled through June, rising 135.1% to 5,369 units.

Although the GX is a small piece of the luxury brand’s total 73,604 U.S. deliveries in the first six months, Lexus officials still are pleased they’ve been able to turn around what had been a flagging model.

The GX is vile garbage. It's too narrow and too tall. It dances in cross winds. But throw money on the hood and anything will sell.

Especially seeing it on the road or in person it looks really goofy and awkward and with it's way out of proportioned height and weird design that just doesn't look right at all. This GX is the ugliest SUV or car second behind the #1 ugliest 2015 Lexus NX and a followed by a distant third Pontiac Aztec.

I pass by a soccer mom in an affluent neighborhood pulled over on the side of the road in one of these while dropping kids off at school every morning. From the day she bought this, I could not help but think why one would choose it with everything else out there. It has an awackward stance with an even more award beak. I can't imagine it is a pleasure to drive in typical suberbia life.

Makes the Aztek look like a real beauty.

I never was fond of the GX... It didn't look as good as it's platform brother (4Runner), then again I am not a truck/suv guy really anyway... IMO, the buyers are just badge whores looking for buttery leather and a good nav w/ backup camera to go with that badge... lol The spindle grill on this is the worst application yet. If the next design follows the NX it is doomed imo.

That's good news for the Predator. But these numbers are really nothing to brag about. Their YTD total is what some of its competition was selling in a month. Thank God Lexus has the RX.

SO!What's wrong about this design?
Thanks God the REAL buyers aren't these HATERS.

What's wrong with the design? For one the higher than typical center of gravity. The second issue is the live axle out back that when combined with the super soft damping and the high center of gravity can cause a driver to approach a spin or a roll over situation too easily because the suspension design causes this mess of a vehicle to lift a rear wheel way too quickly in a corner. That causes the loaded wheel to have to deal with too much mass and the tail will come out.

An emergency accident avoidance move in this vehicle is frightening.

My inlaws decided to buy my wife a mommy car and they were all buzzing about the GX. I took them out in a Mercedes GL and went around a corner way too fast on purpose. The Mercedes leaned and the tires howled but not much drama. We then went two dealers down to Lexus and I did the same move in the GX. It immediately gave up and ghost and wanted to go into spin mode. I was able to catch the spin because I know how to drive cars at and beyond their limits, but the inlaws were unimpressed by the Lexus.

My wife drives a Mercedes GL as a result, not the Lexus deathtrap.

Brian Smith, the marketing genius at Lexus, has been flapping his mouth a lot lately.

Here's a little secret, Brian, if you lower the price of something, it should not be surprise that sales will increase.

Ugly, ugly ,ugly! The Toyota Prado off which this is based looks much nicer than this ugly duckling.

The truck underneath the ugly Lexus styling is very "developing country" in its lack of refinement.

But unfortunately, when it comes to a developing country styling, no one does it better than the Americans.

I mean, what kind of luxury brand really designs a sedan like ATS, and an executive sedan like an XTS, and who even wants Lincoln nowadays, with that boring design.

You with me, Matt?

@JDMUSMuscle don't share needles when you shoot your anti-American heroin with your JDM friends innjunior high.

The 4-Runner I'm a big fan of. It's a lot of utility for the money, not to mention Tacoma-style reliability and pretty good resale value. But the Lexus version is just a bunch of kinda scary-looking ceremony for a lot more money. And most reviews say it's actually inferior to the 4-Runner in terms of how it performs, go figure.

Probably the most honest article I have ever read. Surprised that no one threw in "new aggressive" styling even once.

One of the best SUV's ever made. The GL is the biggest POS on the rode. As soon as people get out of warranty they dump them....

be that as it may it's 1000% better than this shit storm known as the Lexus GX...and by the way it's "road" not "rode" You may with to learn something in high school, son.
