NSX Caught Undergoing Final Testing - Is This One Going To Be A Contender Or Another Pretender?

Honda is putting the final touches to its new NSX sports car ahead of a likely reveal later this year.

Looking visually similar to the prototype model which has already been seen putting in laps in Ohio, this latest mule has taken to the Nürburgring in what is likely to be the final stages of testing.

Among the minor changes made to the production bodywork is the adoption of a seperate lower grille at the front, while the bonnet gets new air vents.

I have little doubt this will be a quick car at first, but Acura has a piss poor reputation for keeping up with the Germans.

If follow the German you see each year, better performance, more power, better handling, etc...

If you follow Acura. We refreshed the looks, we added a trim level, new color, etc.....

It is like the defining element (power) is worked on every 3 to 4 years, and since are never ahead of the curve to begin with you are simply falling further behind the curve.

I can't believe how long this car has taken to come to market, it's embarassing... I imagine many are already driving other vehicles as they couldn't wait for this likely lackluster vehicle... Acura, you are seriously pissing your customers off here in the US with your poor uninspired Honda rip-offs.

not really sure but it seems to me this is the longest length of time between anouncment of the next gen-NSX (not to mention gap between generations) and the actual production of it... I suppose I am impatient and I feel like it isn't making Honda look good that it takes so long to bring it to market... BMW didn't do this with their i8 for example

Does it have a beak?

Probably neither. I don't think it will do well but not so bad that I'd call it a pretender. I think the strongest selling point will be the price.

I haven't seen a test of the RLX hybrid yet so it's a bit hard to get a preview of the performance potential of the setup. But the turbos should help.

Even if customer were able to get this car for under six figures, which I highly doubt for the first year or two of production, it would need to:

- post a 0 - 60 mph time in the mid to high 3s
- pull at least a 1.0 g in corners
- get somewhere north of 30 mpg
- get somewhere around 12 miles or more on electric power only
- drive better than the 12c

Agent 009 - Did you polish off a couple of bottles of wine before you wrote the comment above?
