WHAT?? Consumer Reports Magazine Says Skip The BMW Or Benz - Go For A Buick Instead

Widely consulted Consumer Reports says the latest Buick Regal is about the equal of the much more expensive BMW 328 and Mercedes-Benz C250.

While the publication's report is unlikely to peel BMW and M-B loyalists from their German sporty sedans, it could intercept new buyers who want that kind of performance, but aren't sure they should spend German prices.

CR: "Regal beat the Volvo S60 in a head-to-head road test. Ultimately, the Regal wound up finishing just one point shy of the class-leading BMW 328i and tied the Mercedes-Benz C250 for second place in the organization's overall ratings of upscale sport sedans — while costing thousands less."

But those magical unicorn powers are what makes a BMW win every time Car and Driver does a comparison test even when the numbers on the BMW just don't add up.

LOL. So why did no one mention in the headline that it beat its own stablemate, the ATS?

The real question is this: how many points did it make up on the Benz/Bimmer just in the value/pricing equation? And what is the resale value compared to the Germans?

@cidflekken the resale value of the Germans is not as amazing as you'd think. It's largely a well-accepted myth. The heavy promotion of cheap leases and relatively fast unveiling of new bling makes many German cars yesterday's news in 3-5 years. The game is to get product out on short leases and then take them back to be put out as Certified Pre-Owned where the dealer convinces the buyer of Mercedes' (or BMW et. al.) high resale value as the reason for the high price of the CPO. Private party sales show the real story. STEEP depreciation.

I didn't say that the German's resale value was amazing. I was asking about the Buick's resale value in comparison.

Good thing I don't embrace other's beliefs as Gospel Truth, and base my decisions on that.

Aren't the new and more successful Buicks over the last 5 years are basically from GM's European division Opel? Seems like the new and successful model from GM comes from either Opel or Daewoo (smaller Cruze and Spark). Come to think of it, Ford's successful models of recent years are from their European division - exception being their trucks of course. Even the muscle cars use their Australian and European chassis.
