CompUSA Lexus Riley Win the Rolex Series for 2006

After being the bridesmaid in the 2004 and 2005 seasons. The CompUSA Lexus Riley Team, secured a hard earned victory at the Discount Tires Sunchaser Endurance race at Miller Motorsports Park. This win allowed the CompUSA Lexus Riley to capture the Manufacturer points lead in the final race of the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series. Eventhough the CompUSA Lexus Riley Team only secured 4 victories throughout the season, several top three finishes gave them enough points to overtake second place Pontiac. Other teams in the series in order of final standings for the series were Pontiac, Ford, Porsche, and BMW.

The Lexus Daytona Prototype V8 powerplant is a 4.35-liter, race-modified version of the production engine utilized in the Lexus SC 430, GS 430 and LS 430. The 32-valve, DOHC, fuel-injected power-plant features an aluminum block and cylinder heads and produces 500 horsepower at 8,200 rpm.

Give credit where credit is due I say. This is a pretty hard fought series and Lexus did come out on top of the series. So congrats to Lexus on a well deserved series title.

Commonsense- Lexus realizes that a large core of their clientele are interested in this type of racing. Do an Auto Spies search on my Nielson's Ratings for ALMS. A HIGH percentage of viewers buy cars in that series. What a better way to pull an enthusiast opinion toward you than by putting your name in front of them for 2.5 hours at a time? VERY cost effective overall.

Of course it depends on the venue but, those that say a win on Sunday translates into a sale on Monday is hogwash, have never looked into the research. This is helping establish a heritage of winning which is the best PR and enthusiast can want. The IS series starting in ALMS next year is a great way for Lexus to improve their image against icons such as BMW and Porsche. Also this kind of racing is far more a direct transference of technology to the street than say F1. It allows you the envelope to test extreme engineering and bring it to market quicker.

As you know I slam Lexus for a lot of things, but this is a very positive venture for them. I think they are on the right track to establish the respect that is so hard to come by.

It is a bit early, but I haven’t seen a slam yet for this posting from the anti-Lexus guys.. Probably, because Lexus beat them fairly on a level field.
