TEASED! Subaru Starts Stumping About Its WRX S4 — What Do YOU Expect From This All-New WRX?

When you think about the Subaru WRX, you probably think about performance and helluva product that can take a beating. Well, it turns out that Subaru has found there's a gap that required filling. That's why it's introducing an all-new WRX variant dubbed the WRX S4.

Huh?

According to the company's brief press release it will embody the following four S':

1) Sports performance
2) Safety performance
3) Smart driving
4) Sophisticated feel

So, if I was going to hazard a guess as to what this will entail in a final product, I'd say a lot more of these $$$ and likely a more luxurious vehicle, overall.

Subaru Names All-New Sports Sedan "WRX S4" in Japan

Tokyo, July 25, 2014 - Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), the maker of Subaru automobiles, today announced that Subaru's all-new sports sedan, to be introduced in Japan on August 25, has been named "WRX S4".

While the "WRX S4" has "the Subaru's top AWD (All-Wheel drive) sports performance", the sports sedan also achieves "unique overall safety performance" with features such as the next-generation EyeSight, "superior environmental friendliness" and "high-quality feel". By fusing these four values at a high level centering on its AWD sports performance as a core attribute, a new value has been achieved. It enables more drivers to enjoy superb driving performance with safety and comfort. To represent the above four attributes, the vehicle name "S4" has four meanings; "Sports performance", "Safety performance", "Smart driving" and "Sophisticated feel".

A special website has been launched on the Subaru Official Website at 11:00 am on July 25 (Japan time) to release teaser images and other information.

I predict it will still have goofy Subaru styling that pleases 14 year old boys with posters on their walls rather than being something mature and gorgeous. Subaru needs to do some serious thinking because the WRX will be impacted by Audi, Mercedes, and soon BMW competitors.

It may be a WRX with some added Hybrid tech added. I'm thinking the WRX cvt with a hybrid drive, adaptive cruise control and lane departure equipment in addition to an upgraded cabin: leather, sunroof and "premium" audio.

Not only is the designation the same but even the actual badge is almost a complete coppy. The S is slightly different but the 4 used is identical in style. Perhaps Audi doesn't have the trademark for S4 in the Japanese market.
