VIDEO: So, Can A Bentley Continental GT SPEED Hit That 206 MPH Figure On A Runway? Only ONE Way To Find Out...
Once and a while we see a story, review or video from another publication and we just scratch our heads and wonder "WTF?" That's because it's pretty clear that the folks involved had to know before they conducted their "test" or what have you that it wouldn't work.

Unless they're complete idiots.

I never leave that completely out of the equation as I've had first hand experience dealing with these types. But, that's the nature of the automotive beast.

One of the premier automotive rags, Autocar, recently took Bentley's all-new Speed out for a top speed run at a RAF base in the U.K. The point? To hit the vehicle's claimed 206 mph top speed.

Of course they didn't come close — they hit 181 mph — but instead of noting this should have been attempted at a more appropriate venue it seems that the gentleman in the clip questions the vehicle's capability as well as his bravery.

I am just going to shake my head and simply move on.

We take Bentley's new £156,700, 206mph Continental GT Speed to an airfield to see if we can reach its claimed top speed, with Matt Burt behind the wheel

Don't waste your time!

They guys didn't have the budget to go drive to Germany or rent out a track to fully stretch the "old" girl's legs.

Most tracks have much shorter straights than airstrips and from everything I have read the autobahn isn't so easy to max out these days. The Continentals have always had an exotic level top speed.

There are tracks where they could have hit 200 mph if they had the budget. Yes, there are places on the autobahn that have limits, but it is still possible to test the top speed of this car.

F1 barely hits 200 on most of their tracks so given the acceleration difference I really doubt there are many tracks for going 200+ in a production car, usually you go to an air strip though this one was too short.
